I think those two in, ideally in the next 48 hours, would be great ahead of Hull at best case but definitely ahead of Wigan. That would cheer everyone up a tad.

It would mean our recruitment next week and into august can move towards improving the squad rather than plugging the holes.
My thoughts exactly, maybe a centre half depending on Wrights stance and fitness

Know it's been slow, but we need to have faith in them. Know we are short, but players brought in or looking to, look to all be improvements on what we had.

Dobson - Evans
Scowen - Pritchard (know he's an attacking midfielder, but just shows we were lacking in that area)
Sanderson - Doyle (time will tell, big ask)
McFadzean - Gallacher
Mclaughlin - Key (time will tell, but the price tag indicates his potential worth/ability)

Cutting it fine for 1st league game, but it's a long old season, and still plenty of time left in window.

I think last season shows that:

a) a striker doesn't have to be proven to score lots of goals

b) having a striker score lots of goals doesn't guarantee success

Proven goalscorer are nice but I'm much more concerned about how the team comes together to win football matches. And I think somebody like Stewart moving defenders about will create the gaps that allow McGeady, Embleton, Pritchard, Gooch, O'Brien etc to score and assist more themselves.

A well thought out argument, with merit in it. Seldom found on a football forum.

But what we need is all you have said plus a prolific goalscorer, who profits/links up with Mcgeady... then we will be contenders!

I've not seen any links to O'Donnell anywhere so its random that that Sunderland fan asked him that. Anybody heard anything about O'Donnell to us?

That's an odd link. Could just be adding our name for sake of it. Reason I say that is he's not even similar to the other 2. Gabriel and key have youth pace and athletisism. If we end up with o'donnell I'd be concerned as itd signal a change in the much publisized recruitment model.

The young and high re-sale player is the ideal signing, but not the only one. It's about value. If he fits the bill at a low cost to benefit ratio then no harm done.

I don't know hardly ANYTHING about him so I'm by no means saying he'd be good or brilliant. I'm just saying on paper he seems decent and I'm certainly not ruling out any signings based on an international tournament whilst we are in this division.

I get what you are saying but his touch and positioning were shockingly bad. He was the scapegoat for the Jocks on the general chat board. I'll not be overly excited if this guy is who we bring in.

He's definitely not an "exciting" signing in the way I think Key or Gabriel to a lesser extent would be. But like I say I know nothing about him and didnt really notice him at the euros.
