Can't see that happening, was seriously useful before horrendous injury. Be surprised if Blackburn released him
I read that he's a free agent. Only 29. A gamble following his injury but i think he'd be worth a punt.
Dack won't consistently play at this level again after his injuries. Hopefully we've learned something about free/cheap players with an injury record. He was a good player mind.
He’d be foolish to do so IMO. Someone will take a proper punt on him if he sits tight. Our one advantage could be that his wife wants to move South. She’d be a welcome addition to South Africa Road.
Beth would shout at me for posting the image but I’d advise opening this link while the wife isn’t about. https://www.irishmirror.ie/showbiz/celebrity-news/olivia-attwood-shares-completely-nude-21257524
Pay as you play deals are just fantasy aren't they? They don't really happen, didn't we offer Clint Hill something like that and he quite rightly told us to run and jump? I don't see any player taking that kind of arrangement in the modern climate unless they really are falling apart.
I agree that players, understandably, might not like it but, if they have been regularly crocked and no-one is prepared to take a chance on them, they may have no choice. More importantly, "Pay As You Play" versus a guaranteed weekly wage is not necessarily a zero/one choice: there's always the possibility of a hybrid arrangement whereby the club could pay a decent basic wage and top it up to a good level with appearance payments. If the player is confident he is fit, he might go for it.... if he isn't and doesn't... we're well shot of him!
Hybrid is the way. Throw in a clause that the contract only renews for year two if xx number of appearances are made too. I'm sure it gets far more complicated than this. But it's a good way to give a player a choice to back themselves and for us to safeguard the club.
Absolutely agree with them in principle but do they ever actually happen? Or is it just something we speculate about? I couldn't see a 29 year old taking such a deal even with an injury history.
Wow, some interesting takes on employment practice here. We ask a player who is out of contract (for a reason) to move to one of the most expensive cities in the world, tell him to turn up to training and make himself available but decline to pay him unless he is actually selected. He could be fit but just not picked. For a season. Hasn’t this got a name? Oh yeah, it’s a zero hours contract.
The club should steer well clear of anyone with an injury track record like his. Too much of a gamble otherwise if you are committed to paying him a big salary. Now if the commitment was much smaller, a retainer for example, with a bonus for being available to play, that's a different matter. Ultimately it will come down to the dynamics of demand and supply as to what clubs are willing to offer and what he is willing to accept.
Legally you have to have some sort of basic but clubs could offer him £500 a week and £10k a game, for example. The club is then disincentivised to play him and he’s incentivised to play through injuries he should really take a break from. Reality is a player of his calibre will be offered something more secure than that.
