Is there a chance we could still have something waiting to be confirmed, a van der Vaart-esque signing? (Not in terms of the player, in terms of the arrival, no one heard about it until the morning after)

So that's us done for the summer transfer window. What's your verdict on the business conducted over the past four months? #saintsfc

doubtful

Happy enough with that :) All the players we've bought have quality.

In an ideal world we'd have another CB but I'm happy <ok>

No more lightweight than Modric, would have been a decent replacement, although yes, quite a hefty fee.

AVB will be given time I reckon. They wouldn't have hired him and allowed him to sell loads of first teamers if they wanted immediate success.

Modric has skill and vision and can score, Moutinho doesn't possess this.He gives his all and has a great work rate, a better Scott Parker if you will.Good player, but not as good as Modric and VDV.

I've watched him since he was at Sporting and I know a lot about him, watched a lot of his game.

Fair enough I'll defer to your judgement, but if you offered spurs fans "a better Scott Parker" right now I think they would rip your hand off.

That stat is a little worrying when you consider the average age going are players in their prime or close to it.

Average age of 22 is great for the future but is that enough experience - although if you are good then youre good...

Take out Davis and you have an average age not much greater than 21 so I can see your point on lack of experience. However, there is still a loan window to come and I wouldn't be surprised to see a Prem-experienced CB come in.

No loan window in the Prem!

Who knows what other players we were in for but didn't manage to sign? Still, all in all I'm very happy with this window. I know the perception is that we're still a bit thin at the back but don't forget we have Yoshida, who will be a great CB in time and might rival Jos in the goal scoring stakes too. Luke Shaw will come good, as will Jack Stephens, so we'll be fine. Another thing is that Danny Fox has never played behind a genuine left winger before, so either Mayuka or Ramirez, whichever one plays on the left, will hopefully offer better cover than Lallana did. And Steven Davis will hold things together in the middle to cover the CB's. It's a great time to be a Saints fan!

I agree it's been a great window, but neither Mayuka or Ramirez are genuine left wingers either.....!

Not over joyed myself, was hoping for a decent left back and an experienced Centre Back, too much emphasis on midfield and forward, but not liking Sharps move away, some games are going to need a poacher, can't see one as good as him left in the squad, really don't know enough about the players we have acquired, it a learning curve for fans and players alike. I am normally more positive but remain guarded on this occasion. Time will tell.

Fox isn't that bad :s If he fails to impress there is always January. And I'm sure Jos will be fine.

***gots? You're worse than the lot of them.

Agreed. Guys, slightly off topic, but something I have noticed - I'm a heterosexual male, but I live in Brighton. Seriously, just as racism or sexism is pretty unacceptable, there's been a lot of incidences on this board where someone's sexuality has been used as some kind of derogatory insult. I'm not being thin-skinned as it doesn't actually effect me in the slightest. I do however think that in this progressive day and age, we should all perhaps be a little more sensitive in our insults, or at least a little more intellectually creative with them. Calling someone "gay" or a "***got" is discriminating in a similar way to calling them black. Come on, let's try and be better than that.

Absolutely right and it's against the forum rules. Admin are very hot on this stuff and persistent offenders are quickly shown the door. Can I request that if you see examples of this sort of thing, please don't use the "reply with quote" option as it just multiplies the offence. Just bang off a PM to Beddy, Brendy and me and let us deal with it.

clyne can play lb so i'm not sure that position was essential

Can't believe some people aren't happy with our signings.

Billy Sharp isn't good enough for the Premier League, it's life.He is a fantastic person and I like him a lot,but personality doesn't win you matches.

He just isn't good enough for the Premier League.

Very good window for us, hoping that youth can carry us through as there is no doubting we have a young squad. Again would like to have seen another defender come in but hopefully the defence will step up and we may look to strengthen this area in Jan if there are concerns.

Well that's the summer done guys. It was good fun and I feel we have strengthened ourselves considerably.

But, the proof is in the pudding. Been a pleasure to spend so much of the last few days on here with you all, even if it did get heated at times.

I think people need a ****ING DOSE OF REALITY.

This transfer window has been very good.
