From a personal point of view, I'd be disappointed at letting Sharp go. I really like him. But putting bias and personal feelings to one side, I'm not sure he'd have had too much of an impact this season.

If he were to stay, I doubt he'd start many PL matches at all (especially not with the new formation), and regardless of whether he's starting or coming on as a sub, I don't think he'd do too much outside of the penalty box in this league. And unless we're into the last 15 mins and in desperate need of a goal, I don't think we're in the position to be able to carry someone in the side whose impact is limited to in and around the six yard box (staying up will be hard enough with 11 players, let alone effectively 10).

But still, I'd be disappointed.

And whilst I type, it's confirmed.

Absolute joke that deal - sorry but Adkins has made a huge mistake in letting him go

I really like Billy Sharp, but I wouldn't say it's a huge mistake. Billy Sharp is great in the box, however I would question that the rest of his game is Premier League standard, especially playing 4-3-3.

Exactly - and even if you ignore questioning his ability he's 3rd or 4th on the pecking order in competition for 1 place - hardly indispensable I'd say.

So we've signed no-one from Bristol Rovers (absolutely no disrespect intended) but a Japanese international defender, a golden boot African international striker and the new Lionel Messi WOW !!!!!

4-5-1..let's not kid ourselves here and call it 4-3-3

Sharp doesn't suit the formation. He worked extremely well in 4-4-2 so he was right to go as Adkins seems like he will be completely inflexible in his tactics and never use Sharp other than a late sub. Just think many liked him and are just disappointed in general that he fell out of favour and doesn't suit the formation Adkins has chosen especially since he is still scoring goals for fun even while out of favor.

edit: also doesn't help Rodriguez seems to automatically be ahead of sharp despite not deserving to be so I expect if they were both to be on the bench Sharp would come on after Rodriguez which is nonsense imo

Nabil Hassan of BBC:

Billy Sharp to Nottm Forest done. Likely to join permanently at end of the season. His fitness was always an issue for Adkins. #saintsfc
