I know it's a bit late to comment on the Buttner deal, he's at United got to move on look to the future and whatnot, just that I only just signed up and people are dismissing it like it's no big deal just move on, just wanted to add my two cents...

I feel we really missed out with him. The best thing about him is his versatility, he can play literally anywhere along the left flank. If we had him in the team, we could have played him left mid against City instead of Rodriguez who clearly wasn't comfortable with that many defensive responsabilities. We would have been set defensively and going forward as we'd basically be playing two very attacking left backs, and that flank wouldn't have been an issue all game. Fox probably has a slightly better delivery but the difference is that Fox needs to be teed up to cross, Buttner can create oppurtunities from nothing and can really burn defences. Not saying he would be a definite starter ahead of Fox, but would add depth at both left-back where our only back-up is a very talented but unproven young player and down the wings where our depth is fairly non-existant.

Also the idea that we were pushed out of the transfer and that it all fell to pieces after the third party stuff and we had no chance at him, both Vitesse and Buttner came out and said that the issue was sorted and they were just waiting for our go-ahead, which never came. Think it's fairly clear (to me) Cortese pulled out purely because of the annoyance, the same thing I worry will happen with Ramirez. Not slating him before people jump on me, think he's done fantastic for us, great business sense, set the club in a great direction, just that he needs to sometimes lay up a bit on his businessman hardball tactics and just push the deals for players that will greatly improve the team.

Case in point Ramirez, seems to be that the situation is that the players wants to join us, club has set out a price, we've agreed the price but our now held up on installations, a couple more mill this year or a couple more next year and so on. I mean it could easily wind up perfectly, everyones happy, he joins, we win the premiership etc. etc., but if the deal falls through it'll be very frustrating that we keep losing out on players over fairly minor issues.

Again, before people jump on me for criticizing Cortese slightly, I still love him, not calling for his head or anything, just sometimes wish his motivations were a bit more football a bit less business!

I don't think Buttner was an important enough target to fanny about with all the complications. It's only since he's joined Utd that anybody has said we missed out. Before that nobody was too fussed.

Haha might not believe me but I've genuinely been saying it since as soon as it became clear we weren't after him, then when United came in for him it frustrated me even more as it pretty much proves he has talent. Not saying he'll even make the bench there, but if United buy him you know he must have something to him.

Do think the United thing has obviously stirred up more discontent though.

I can see your point with this post, but I would just like to mention that at the moment all of that is speculation.

Even the fact that we are in for Ramirez is speculation. At the end of the day, no-one outside of the club has any idea how Cortese handles the business dealings.

The other thing is, how good is it getting upset about us not signing players, rather than another team signing our players!?

Man U have bought plenty of crap - Bebe, Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba etc. Proves very little.

Well obviously we can't watch live streams of whats happening in the negotiations, but from what information there is and from knowledge of Cortese you can make reasonable assumptions.

And you're not wrong there either!

Well obviously mate, not saying every signing they make is a Ronaldo, but when a club as large as United with the scouting system they have if they buy a player it's reasonable to assume they are of the standard that would make them a good signing for a newly-promoted team. And a lot of United 'flops' are partly because of the lack of attention they receive at a team as big as United.

We need to spend on quality because as sure as ****e as good as were on Sunday we do not have the squad or first team to stay up .
Surely they can see this ?
