I'd go for Davies ahead of Dann just because he is a leader (captain at every club he has been at I think) and seems to have that composure about him that we need.

I still think the ideal would still be 2 central defenders. one with leadership qualities and ideally premiership experience (like Davies) and one ball player (preferably young) from abroad who we could possibly develop into something special.

Yet for Villa he was neither of them things.

Still think Craig Dawson would be a great signing, better then both Davies and Danns.

What about Boyata? young, quick, some premiership experience - good footballer and a good defender. Would probably be available given the players that are ahead of it in the Man City pecking order (and they are chasing further cb's). I'd be very happy with him.

Sounds great. If we can get over the stumbling block of him not being very good, we're onto a winner.

Lukaku reminds me of a very very poor Drogba.

and you base that on what? Have you actually seen him play? He hasn´t practically played at all for Chelsea, so you can´t base it on his this season....and at Anderlecht he was absolutely awesome.
He´s only 19 years old and scored 33 goals for Anderlecht in 73 games (and that was before he had even reached 18). Drogba scored 32 goals in 109 games for Le Mans and then Guingamp and that was between 20 and 24....

Dawson will start for West Brom this season.

Davies was captain at Villa for a couple of games. had a horrible time there with injury.

I think it will be difficult to get a good proven centre back as most of them are first teamers in top leagues and we have just been promoted.

A big worry for Lukaku coming out of Anderlecht was that he relied too much on his physical advantage to get onto long balls and beat players for strength, and lacked technical ability. What we've seen so far at Chelsea, albeit not much, is that these worries certainly had basis. Granted, he's very young and there's time for that to change, but if we're talking about right now I'd rather we didn't go for a loan for him.

Basically, he's Big Sam's perfect player.

In this video (his goals in the 2010/11 season) tell me how many goals he scored in which he relied on his physical strength to score and beat players. He´s big and strong but he definitely has technical ability.

He has technical ability but not nearly refined enough to (yet) be competent in the Premier League, otherwise he'd have played more for Chelsea. His general style of play revolves a lot around physical strength. What we've seen so far from him for Chelsea is that he's not mentally a Premier League footballer, he lacks tactical incisiveness and ends up bumbling about a lot. I don't want to use the cliche "football brain" because obviously he understands the game, hence his success for Anderlecht, but in terms of reading Premier League defences he has a lot to learn. I'm not calling him ****, I'm not saying he was a waste of money, but as Southampton would never sign him permanently, the only option is a loan and I don't want him right now.
