Best of luck to them. Buying a whole new team. That always works well. Just look at last season: Norwich, Swansea and QPR. And it was QPR who went down the whole new team route....

1 thing you can't quesiton is McDermott's eye for talent. Lucky for us Adkins has a pretty good one too!

We are trying to bring in as many if not more than Reading. They have brought in proven experience and young talent but they have just managed to do it quicker than us.

I think Reading are making sensible calculated signings as I think we are. I think we are being forced do things slowly as Nigel wants a certain type of player (high standards) and will not accept second best.

West Hams transfer strategy seems very gung ho. I think they will be the team to struggle most.

Reading are doing the same as us as has already been said, it just so happens they have signed more than us right now - let's judge by the end of August

I wouldn't say that Reading are doing the same as us, they've signed Mcleary, who scored 13 goals in 111 games for Forest, hardly amazing for a winger. Personally I'd say Gunter is over-rated, so too Guthrie. Pogrebnyak yes, is a good player, and I'm not sure on Mariappa as I haven't seen him much. On the other hand, we have just signed probably the best up and coming strikers outside the prem, and Davis who was captain of the best team in Scotland - before last season.

Some may say Reading deserved to win the Championship due to their brilliant run, but their squad I don't think is as good as ours. Roberts is ageing and ALF has only had one season in the championship. I think Saints are sitting prettier, but people think Reading are all set, just because of the numbers they have already bought in.

Pogrebnyak is far more overrated than Gunter and Guthrie :p

I hope you're joking?

Unless you're talking about nothing but his Fulham spell, then no I'm not. The rest of his career has been distinctly average in leagues significantly worse than the Premier League. Aside from his run at Fulham (where even most Fulham fans concede he was average aside from the few seconds in each game where he scored, which is admittedly all that was asked of him) and one UEFA cup run with Zenit he's just not been good, yet people are treating him as if he's one of the league's best forwards who is set to grab them 20 goals this year??

Then there was the £10m signing on fee his agent wanted from Al-Fayed at Fulham...

I think Pavel is a decent player, he'll get goals. But he's that sort of striker who will go long periods in a game not doing much, and then all of a sudden he'll nod a goal from a corner. I don't think he's particularly quick, but he's physical and has a fair bit of strength about him.

I wouldn't have said no to him here, but on the wages he supposedly wanted I think in the long-run we've got a better deal with Jay.

So if he scored with nearly every shot he had, how is he more over-rated than Guthrie and Gunter?

He had 19 shots at the goal for Fulham ,of which 6 went in. Not bad, I think his first five shots on goal he scored, but once teams worked him out his chances were limited. I watched him up at Anfield last season, didn't do much. I was far more impressed with his teammates who offered a lot more than he did during there 1-0 win.

Don't get me wrong, although defending him over gunter and guthrie I don't rate him as a quality striker, just that he is probably Reading's best buy this summer, and that we aren't on a par with them in terms of players we sign.
