ah that's where you are wrong. It's too far out to the flanks. I just stay near the centre circle, only moving out when there is a centre to the other team!!!

I can't exactly make a joke about that, because I'd genuinely do that in five a side on occasion. I'm an old man at heart.

Last season my "vets" team awarded me with an award. I was presented with a photograph of a patch of grass with measurements reading 3' x 3' and a heading, "Least Ground covered in a Match Award"

I was quite proud.

That's quite an achievement, I'd never be able to do that because whenever I took a first touch I'd need to chase at least 6 feet to get onto it again.

LOL - the old "second touch is a tackle" syndrome??? And you gave De Ridder some stick???

Anyway, back on topic... is this new Dutch lad going to sign or not? Thought there may have been an announcement today.

Haha the very same... I know, I'm a hypocrite. It's the same reason I always felt bad giving Forte stick for his first touch!

On topic, think we'll give it a couple of days. Got his medical to do (which might be Monday, I think?) and we'll wrap it up then.

It's probably done; the club will probably announce it at a convenient time rather than as soon as it's complete. Also, it'll be in the evening. They like shafting the Echo by announcing transfers after tomorrow's edition has started being pressed.

Back to Buttner...

...playing today for Vitesse in a Friendly. Just missed a penalty...

Did the Vitesse website writer jump the gun a bit? If they hadn't written that we'd all be saying the deal was probably off! Although I am sure it will all be squared away after the weekend.

Adam Blackmore the Sport Editor of BBC Solent says from what he has been told, Buttner will sign early next week.

Surely you wouldn't play someone if you thought he was on verge of a move in case he hurt himself. Strange.

Who knows. Seems a bit odd. But I would imagine Saints would know about it. Maybe they weren't bothered if the guy played?

Depends how much pre-season he has had perhaps? Saints just got back from Champneys and returned to Staplewood on Monday.

De Ridder's pace scares defenders, but his final ball has been poor. In his defence though he's never had a settled run in the team and I think if he got one his understanding with the other players, and where to put the ball, would improve. He looks quite unlikely to get that though, sadly.

I'd agree with that summation/ I always thought last year that 5 or 6 games in a row may have been the making of him.

Agreed, he looked a world beater away at reading.

Agree a bit strage. You wouldn't want him to fail a medical because of a knock he picked up. No threat to Rickie on penalties then:emoticon-0116-evilg

I would like to see How effective De Ridder would be playing on the left rather than the right. I would prefer he use his pace cutting in running at the heart of the defence, rather than towards the corner flag.

I know that Lallana has made that position his own and rightly so but I still think he would be worth a look preseason. Could make a difference as an impact sub next season.
