I like the options he provides; Fox is good going forward, and a magician from deadballs, but we got caught out on the flanks with some regularity last year...some pace and defensive ability out there certainly won't hurt in the Prem.

Does anyone feel with having Fox and Harding already covering left back position that Buttner might be used in a more forward role with Lallana moving to the right ?

The Center back we buy will be competing with Fonte on the right side of the center back partnership as the Left is covered by Hooiveld and Seaborne.

New Signings before training camp
Goalkeeper
Right sided center Back

As mightysouthampton and others have eluded to above - I believe we need two CB's; I honestly don't see Seaborne as a backup. At least one CB who has EPL experience - same as we picked up Davis - e.g. a solid addition to the squad.

I read it some where so not fact yet, a bit like your Subbuteo

Apparently it is going to be this year's must have xmas gift for boys accroding to an article I read this week.

Seaborne is in the 25 and will be competing with Hoovield for the left sided place, Adkins new center back priority will be right sided.
Totally agree that EPL or top level European league experience would nice.

I believe your right Possum, some fans get carried away with there Christmas shopping a little early obviously.
Martin has been released to gain regular football experience and will be replaced by hopefully a very good right sided center back to compete with Fonte.
I always expected 4 to 5 players to be added to the squad before training camp and the season start.
He will want to see most of the players who have got us to the Premier league, have a chance in training and pre season friendlies to see the level they can compete at.

I hope Everton can do very well for Moyes. He looks set to be there for life. Only Man U & Arsenal have not been looking for a manager during his tenure.
Surprised Spurs did not make an approach for him, but then equally not surprised because Spurs are run by a muppet.

With the release of Bart & loan of Martin it looked like the club had irons in the fire for these positions.
Hope we had a back up for Butland if he was top of the GK shopping list.
No real solid rumour for CB all summer. I do wish it was someone who played at the euros.

I think Moyes is a genuine loyal guy in the Nigel mould.

I rated Harding until I saw a him play last season, no right foot at all and looked dodgy.

And yet he played at right back a couple of times and did OK. I don't understand all this anti-Harding thing. Until Fox came along there were no complaints. At the start of the season he was one of our best players and it took an injury to let Fox in.

Defensively, I would rate Harding over Fox who takes up the strangest position in nomansland between the centre backs and where a left back should be. Going forward Harding often gets behind the last defender and can put in some good crosses as well as scoring the odd goal. Most of Fox's crosses, good as they are, come from deep.

If we want to strengthen our defence I could see Fox playing in a sweeper role as he looked quite useful when he played as an emergency centre back.

Hopefully, this is a good signing that will give us more options if nothing else.
