The two most important positions where we need cover are goalkeeper and centre back.
Fairly confident the keeper situation will be sorted shortly but it seems to have gone very quiet regarding a cb.
Anyone have any ideas whats happening?

I am absolutely convinced that there is a CB in the wings, soon to be announced. It is either a holiday or a tournament or something such like that is awaiting completion before the announcement. I just can't see NA and NC as professional and thorough they appear to be, to let Martin go without something in place.

Maybe i am wrong, but that would go against the grain for these two to be not fully prepared. 100% preparation seems to be a "by-word" for Saints these days.

Absolutely agree with you but it is just very quiet! Probably all going on behind the scenes but with no leaks?

Pogrebnyak is a good player. Proven that he can score at Premier League level.

It is less of a gamble than us signing Rodriguez.

No he hasn't?? He had 4 or 5 good games, very, very far from proven in the Premier League! Hell, if that's enough to be "proven" then let's bring in Amr Zaki, yeah?

The decent people on twitter were saying Pogrebnyak was on £35k. The only place I've seen £65k is on here. Still hefty though.

Way i look at it is could Fulham afford 35k, yes easily. You have his agent saying Fulham could not match Readings offer, he went on about how close he was to joining Fulham. But then then Reading came in with a big wage offer, they went back to Fulham to see if they would match it and they didn't.
That's why I doubt it's only 35k.

His agent even said it's all about the money <laugh>

Not the best place for a centre back!

Maybe there were various bonuses/fees that slipped under the radar, taking the deal up to more than Fulham were willing to pay?

Could all well be 30-35k starting wage, with a nice 30k appearance fee. Doesn't sound to bad does it.

From what I can gather through various sites and reading between the lines, it seems the wage is 35k a week which Fulham could match. What they couldn't match was the signing on fee that Reading have given him.

They must have effectively given the player the transfer fee.

Again this is not fact just what has been hinted at on various sites.

Steven Whittaker has joined Norwich on a free transfer. Now it's maybe that he was just 'ordinarily' out of contract any way with Rangers, and left on a free as per the bosman ruling. However, I'm inclined to assume it's because he's jumped ship from the newco. And if this is the case, then the rest who wish to leave - including Steven Davis - will surely now follow.

The move is subject to international clearace, which I assume could relate to his contract situation with Rangers.
