anyone actually seen Butland play, or are we just following the media hype here? I've never seen him play, not even one minute so I find it hard to get excited about someone I can't judge for his footballing ability.

This is true, but the fact that he's a 19 year old who has only seen league action at the bottom of the Football League, yet has been deemed good enough to get the call for the Euro squad, says quite a bit about his footballing ability.

I'm hearing that we are looking at Centreback Ben turner of cardiff. Popping up on a few rumour sites, expect it to be in some of the papers over the next few days.

Not saints related but apparently Anelka is in talks with West Ham.... Turn up!!!

That is the worst rumour I have heard this summer. Why would he leave China where he earns more in a week than all the posters on this forum earn in a year combined.

He fell out with the owner .

Not enough for me to be saying "sign him up". Freddy Adu must have had the same said about him....

He quite likely did. There's little doubt that Butland is a risk, but it's one with an enormous payoff...if we guess right, and all current indications suggest that he will succeed, we have one of the best young keepers in England, at what should be a relative pittance. That seems a very reasonable gamble to me; if our ambitions are what Cortese and al say they are, that is the sort of move we will have to make.

I'm not doubting that, just don't understand those people jumping on the bandwagon based on what they have read with no real knowledge. He could be the next Joe Hart or he could be he next Stephen Byewater.

But if NA wants him, ok by me

I hate to go the 'appeal to authority' route, but most here are supportive owing to the fact that dozens of scouts and a good many high-level teams are after the youngster. Doesn't make him a surefire bet to succeed, but it does suggest that we're in good stead if we sign him...we won't be bidding against ourselves, to say the least.

Don't know if it's true or even if we want him, but if Chelsea are looking to loan him out to a PL club we must be ideal. He'd be looked after and in a team that like to play decent football. The downside for them must be that we scarcely used the loanee from Spurs.

Think de bruyne might just be a little more established, he looked great for Genk when I saw him! Very strong on the ball and quite pacey!

de bruyne would be a class loan. he is the tricky right winger we need. And I think Chelsea will loan him out as they agreed to sign him, before Roman decided he wanted to put a lot more money in again.

Still would like to see us linked with a few more rb's as this is where we are weakest

I think it says more about English goalkeepers that a kid with only a season of League Two football under his belt is going to the Euros. Admittedly he is a talent, but I don't think we can label him one based purely on the fact he's going to the Euros.

Plausible from talkSPORT. Hope they are right on this one. Fits with Nixon saying Saints final deadline for a decision was Thursday night though.

Decision Thursday, medical Friday and announced at 23:30 on a Friday Night just like old times? ;)
