Not sure where the gripes are coming from on the transfer price.

As well as not being likely to be in one payment, it is also what we ended up getting for Bale for five years ago, and around the same as we sold Walcott for six years ago. Both were Champioship players going to PL sides, and both were able to eventually step up and do well in top 4/5 sides.

£7m to me is a snip, seeing that he has lots of potential suitors. I certainly would prefer young English talent that can integrate into a young, emerging, academy-based side of the future than someone like Yakubu, who I saw us linked with! And as for the QPR fan saying they didn't sign anyone costing that much - and yes, look where they finished. They were extremely lucky not to go down (despite their good home run at the end of the season). One Bolton result away from the drop. They are certainly not a well-run club, from what I have followed of them in the press over the last few years, nor is their transfer policy (troublemakers in; decent defender out that ended up helping get Reading promoted) I would ever want to emulate (and that includes an absolutely appalling choice in managers for years up until Warnock). We can't be compared to them.

£7m is the price of investing in the future. The club have a plan, and Jay Rod fits nicely into it. Nor is it knee-jerk, as we have tried to buy him before. There is a big difference between a wise investment and a profligate approach to spending - Cortese has shown he is adapt at the former.

And remember - people frowned at us spending £1m on Lambert not so long ago...

Barton on 70 grand a week! Not much my arse!

If you want something you have to be willing to pay. If Nigel feels JRod is one of our missing pieces, then I have no problem with what we pay. I may have to start using capitals soon: we are not going to buy PL-experienced players on their way down. When Nicola came he said, 'I don't call struggling in the PL for 27 years an achievement.' Raised eyebrows at the time, but I think we're buying into his dream now.

You guys should read the Norwich board - Jay Rod hasn't even happened yet and they're freaking out! I like Norwich so won't write more, just that perhaps other clubs are beginning to envy us...

I can't speak for my fellow fans, but I for one don't envy you. You are taking a risk buying a player that has no real experience of the Premier League, just like we did last season. £7m seems like a lot of money for him, if I'm honest.

Rodriguez, Lambert, Sharp, Chung, Barnard....Even Adkins will struggle to keep everyone happy.

I think we´ll sell Barnard or loan him out, but that still leaves us with 4 quality strikers. The competition for places is going to be great for us but I think all of them will expect to play a lot of football.

Sounds a lot until a couple get injured...we got caught out a bit last season when Lambert got suspended. Also there will be substitute appearances. Adkins seems to be good at keeping all the players on board. Better JRod than signing a player like Owen or Yakubu and then telling them that they are not playing.

I think this is only a good deal if we have enough left in the war chest to get a decent right winger/right wing back. But welcome Jay Rod.

Well a lot of people from other clubs slating Jay Rod, well I hope he comes back to bite them if he signs up. Not to mention I reckon 90% of the people abusing have never seen him play. Yes, the fee is high but he is a high class player with bundles of talent. No one can compare him to the prices of Van De Vaart and Hernandez because they're on massive wages. I do believe now a lot of teams are feeling a threat from Saints now. Bring it On!!

i doubt we would spent this amount on one player unless we had sufficient funds for other players.

How long is Chung out for? , could be we get another another striker in on loan.

Well the premier league offers the reserve league so players can still test them selfsame against good competition. So I think everyone will still be quite happy.. If your not good enough for a team just promoted to the prem, then you aren't good enough full stop.

Also, i have noticed a lot of fans wanting proven prem players, but realistically there really isn't many about. Yakubu could be good but how much will he be on a week? Again he's the sort of player with an ego and can cause a stir amongst the team. Remember Jay Rod has played with Cork and Fox before and I looked at a few of Rodriguez goals on youtube and a number of his goals came from a Fox cross.
