If this happens Burnley will be sick of us. First Cork (who wasn't their player, but they were after him too after his loan stint), then Fox and now potentially these two. I know nothing about Trippier, but if he is a young RB do we really need him? Richardson 1st choice, Butterfield back up with Stephens coming through.

To be fair Butterfield is crap

On what basis? He played well, worked hard, no histrionics like his Dad. Whether he is ultimately good enough who knows, but I think your assessment is a bit harsh.

My opinion, he looks like how his dad was when he played. Moans about every little thing that goes against him, like kicking the ball away last night. Basically a moany bitch when he doesn't get what he wants.

Been linked with Simon Cox again. Not quite sure about him, hasn't got a great record for albion. I'd rather see us take a punt for Hooper. Do we really need a striker though? I think and Right and Centre mid are far more important

We need a striker, yes. We need alot of players. Our squad is pretty similar to what it was in League One. We need strength in depth.

Trippier is young, but he's old enough to know his way around. I think he's 21/22, about the same as Clyne. There are other interested teams, so if its not us, it will be someone else. It's not our fault if Burnley have good players but not the status to keep hold of them.

I'd have Trippier over Clyne, looks a great player. However I do think we should be looking closely at a number of Palace yougnsters. Good technical players with good attitudes. Bit like our academy...

Sorry, but I think that is a bit harsh, he was improving with every consequetive game, his experience shone through when Richardson failed to make it fitness wise. It is always difficult when you are not playing regularly there is no on-off switch, things take time, which was something we didn't have the luxury off towards the end of the season. However it is critical that we get a full back (or two) with pace and discipline in bucket loads, to cope with the forwards in the Premier. I don't think we have that at the moment.

Not a fan of Simon Cox at all, would rather pretty much anybody else we've been linked with (except Zaha, he can **** off)

I like Cox, but I think we desperately need a striker with pace. Not Hooper, definitely not Zaha.

James Beattie anyone?

Now stop that. Beatts was an excellent striker for Saints, but that's all in the past. ;)

If we're going to take a punt at any striker, surely it must be Rhodes. Now there's a punt and a half..! Personally, I don't tend to like taking too many chances on players who can make or break a season. Most of the current team have little or no experience at the level they're about to get into, and I'd like to see a little proven talent come in the side. Not necessarily from the PL either, Bundesliga, Serie A, etc... would be fine.

Everything that I have seen, read and heard tells me that Nigel will be back in for Hooper. He loves the guy and doesn't make a secret out of it. I am not usually a rumour monger but I am certain he will make another attempt, and Celtic's asking price might drop a bit.

On the Beattie subject, two more ex-Saints keeping them out of the top two, Antonio and Ranger. Wednesday are about to complete what West Ham couldn't do to us. Just realised he'll miss the play-offs, oops.

Doubt very much Jay Rod will become a Saints player - unless we push the boat out on wages and transfer fee, which for one player is unlikely. Everton or Fulham more likely destinations. (Yes I'm prepared to be shot down for this terrible remark..:emoticon-0127-lipss)

Will Everton or Fulham have any more spending money than us though? I assume Everton will spend most of what's available on Pienaar, unless they're completely stupid.

I think Saints will spend 10-12 million in total, just that unlike some other clubs we'll have to spread the money in several different places. If Fulham sell Dempsey I can see them spending big on Jay Rod, while Everton always seem in need of a striker!
