Don't think Adkins has high hopes of signings. Didn't look happy about it in post-match interview. When he said 'Who knows' and we thought he was being mysterious, he was probably stating the truth. Bet he'd like to be given Cortese's wallet and let loose...would probably have signed 4 decent players before breakfast.

Can see deadline day being mental. Cortese seems to like playing hardball and will wait for concessions to be made. Must be frustrating for Nigel as I'm sure he'd like the deals done sooner rather than later. We can all agree that additions are needed and I think we will get them, just that Cortese will take it to the wire to pinch pennies.

Too many profligate managers have had access to the chequebook and in the process destroyed the club.

I am pleased that Nigel is being sensible with the money and will not be bullied or pressurised.

Correct , but saving money to keep us in this League will not work at all , at least QPR and Norwich are going for it , Sunderland have signed overpriced players but you have to , he is in for a rude shock if he thinks he can hardball some of these clubs .

There is sensible and there is being frugal to the point of a lack of ambition , a West Brom were happy to be a yo yo side for years , bollocks to that we should be looking at a far higher level .
Arsenal fans are suffering at the moment because of a lack of ambition , they will get shown their arse this year by struggling to get into the top 4 .

Cortese has shown with the quick agreements on Davis and Clyne that he is willing to push deals through.
Teams don't give up their best players without a fight. Hopefully Bologna & Blackpool will buckle

harsh reality for Nigel is if he dose'nt go out and buy more players then were as good as gone, the squad at the mo,net is not competitive, only Reading have a worse squad than us.

That was because their contract situations allowed them to go through without much in the way of transfer value. The two of them came in for about £3m in total.

Very true , and do you now what annoys me is that we could of scouted in May , June , July , could of been in the background doing the groundwork , its not like no one knew we were promoted !

Besides losing probably their two best players (I particularly feel losing Song is a bad move), Arsenal have had a decent summer in terms of purchases. They set about their business early unlike last year, and Giroud and Cazorla are very good buys. If they get a good defensive midfielder in then they can be pretty pleased with how things have gone. I don't see them dropping out of the top 4 this season.

You really think we were just sitting on our hands?

I'm sure that everyone has been working on this for months...we have failed to get players for various reasons which may include price, team not letting players go (why should they?), and players not wanting to come (we are only a new PL club after all) but I doubt it will be due to lack of preparedness and hard work.

Well a hive of activity is hardly the phrase that springs to mind .

And you sort of undermine your argument here a wee bit

And really, we brought in three real upgrades and a fourth necessary piece quite early in the transfer period...few other teams can say the same. Things have ground to a halt since, but that's not shocking; we've been targeting fairly significant players, and those deals often go through late because the selling team has a realistic hope that they can increase their take by waiting until the last moment. I'd expect a CB in very, very soon, and with Ramirez in particular the clock is our friend to some extent; if someone else doesn't swoop for him, the closer we get to the deadline, the less leverage Bologna has and the more likely it is that a deal will be struck.
