Call me a cynic if you like but doesn't the Buttland saga smell a bit fishy? We had the deal cut and dried the Player was happy to come here, then a mystery third party intervenes, a Manure tap perhaps?

As you have summed up before just seems to me that the player had jumped the gun and that the fee hadn't been agreed. They seem to have come out now and said how much they want... Since Friday's "offer not accepted" fuss all I've seen is positive news - including today where the guy who first broke the deal said he expected Ramirez to be a Southampton player by the Wigan game.
Hopefully now people will shut up about "needing cb's with pace" none of our goals were conceded due to lack of pace. Hopefully the few idiots on here will realise that....then again they probably won't.
He wasn't denying we need CBs (because he's not an idiot), he was saying that the obsession a few people have with wanting CBs to be pace machines is really stupid (because it is).
I'm not denying we need at least 1 or maybe 2 new centre backs, but the whole pace thing really pisses me off. Fonte and Hooiveld both showed today what a lot of people already know - they are PL standard.
As is a striker who scores free kicks. Nice to have, but certainly doesn't ruin a player. Any competent CB positions themselves so they don't need to be a sprinter.
True. Unless of course "slow" refers to a player who can't even break into a run.
