Ha thankfully Goal.com is terrible, I'd be terrified if we spent £6m on this guy.

EDIT: Just had a look for myself. Think you misread it, the £6m bit is about Rodriguez :)

Yes I stand corrected, tiredness is a killer!!

From the little I've seen I reckon he'll end up in front of Fox quite quickly. And I don't mean left midfield either.

And I've always rated Dan Harding too. He's out of the reckoning now though.

I rated Harding until I saw a him play last season, no right foot at all and looked dodgy.

@bigadamsport 'My understanding is that #saintsfc will wrap up Buttner deal early next week, following a medical - he hasn't signed yet.' - No need to hit refresh quite yet then

I'm going to reserve my judgement until I see him play. But he can't be any worse then Harding, so least we are moving forward.

This - but I do trust the scouting team at Saints. Ok, De Ridder wasn't as good as we all thought he would be, but he did show glimpses of his quality i.e. goal v Reading.

I can definitely see this guy playing left midfield, with Lallana moving inside. As Cove says above, 'he's fast, agile player, strong and has great stamina and endurance. Very consistent player and has a high work rate, but can throw in a good cross'. If Lallana was on the left, one of his weaknesses is tracking back, purely because Adam isn't the quickest and we would rather him high up the pitch. This chappy has all the attributes we will need for a winger, hopefully it becomes a shrewd bit of business for us.

All Dutch LB's and RB's are trained to fill in the winger or LM or RM position.I'ts part of the Dutch youth training system.

He's been quoted as saying he always considered himself a winger and never thought of playing at left-back until he was asked to by his coach.

I'm sure he'll be a useful signing, whether as first choice or backup, we did need reinforcements at both left-back and left-wing.

Harding I'm afraid is not good enough for this level.

Would be good if we could find an identical rb/rm player to fill our rm spot and be a cover for rb

As midfields of promoted teams go, Morgan, Cork and Lallana are a very decent 3. Maybe a better example to use is Blackpool towards the end of last season. They employed Matt Phillips and Tom Ince out wide. Despite thinking of them as wingers rather than attackers, neither did a stroke of defending and they spent most of their time running at defences. They resoundingly beat us up there because they outnumbered us in midfield and that allowed the wingers to run at us and tear up our fullbacksbacks. Man for man, they weren't superior to us, but Holloway's tactics and shape won the day. It's impossible to get the best out of Lallana in a defensive setup. We're lucky to have him and we need to maximise his utility if we're going to get anywhere this season.

Yes Blackpool played attacking football but they also had a sound defence and in Keith Southern one of the best destructive midfielders in the league, if not the best. We currently have neither of those things.

I'm not saying we should set up in a defensive way but we need to be realistic. I just don't see Lee and Rodriguez as good fits in that position. Maybe one, with a genuine winger on the other side, but certainly not both of them, and if you want to play Lallana in an advanced central position, a better formation for that would be a diamond midfield and two orthodox strikers. Playing with two advanced wingers and an advanced midfielder is a very offensive tactic and you very rarely see it even among the best teams.

I'd imagine it will be on the OS soon. Liked the look of the guy on one of the you tube clips, competitive, and looked strong, good technique.

Interesting to see where he would play, left back or left mid? If he is the business left midfield, then we will still benefit perhaps from Fox's delivery, and like Itchen north matt says, bring lala inside where he could be really cause some damage.

Well, have we considered he may pay RM with the ability to cut inside and shoot/cross...

He played very well last season, and had the record for most goal-line clearances!

If he's available for free, and doesn't ask for stupid money, he'd be well worth a go.

Richardson had his fair share of goal-line clearances too.

Agree that if he doesn't want stupid money, then he's worth a go as a free transfer. Not sure I'd ever want us to buy him though.
