Not trying to be arrogant but he'd be a fool to turn us down to stay at Birmingham.

Agree, and if Talksport are correct, surely Birmingham have got no choice but to sell.

I agree with the above, only Saints and probably Spurs can offer first team football at faster rate than the other top clubs, its funny as a few reports are popping up stating Birmingham haven't actually rejected the offer which I really wouldn't be surprised if that turns out to be true.

It would be a better move for him to come to us than stay there IMO. £6m is ok but I don't think it should be much more than that for a goalkeeper.

I think he would be the perfect choice as it gives Kelvin another chance in the PL and it eases Butland in for the future.

As it happens I checked a Cheltenham forum who also seem to think he'd be foolish to stay at Birmingham over a move to Southampton. Though one gave the Rodriguez approach of "He should join a better team!" :(

@TonyHusbandBBC: Led to believe reports of £6m bid for #bcfc goalkeeper Jack Butland from #saintsfc are wide of the mark at this stage. #bbcsportsday

Just tweeted.

This interest in Butland (if true), prooves to me that SKD will start next season as our #1 Keeper. It is obvious that the club is on the lookout for a long term replacement for Kelv who will benefit from the club's culture of "improving" players. I'm very excited for our future with the signings we are making, who knows?, we might have 3 or 4 England internationals in the future.

As I said earlier this week, if Butland wants to go, then he'll go. There's very little Brum can do about that. It's rare that a player who wants to leave, doesn't. And even in the circumstances when they don't leave, it can ultimately turn out to be the wrong decision for the club.

Look at the Beattie situation with us. Every other day throughout the summer of 2004, there was a story in one of the papers about Beattie wanting to leave. Some said he wanted to get himself noticed for England, some said he thought his time with us had come to a natural end and it was time for a change of scenary, some said he simply didn't get on with Sturrock. But whatever the reason, I think it was fairly clear he wanted to go. But we held onto him, and he ultimately did absolutely nothing for 6 months, before we then offloaded him in the Jan transfer window for just £5 million - when I'd have been looking for £7 million - £8 million in the summer.

You just can't keep a player against their will. Modric last season is a just rare anomoly.
