It's all very well applauding Gylfy for his goals but we cant be a team of no strikers. The midfield should chip in with some goals but the striker is the one who has to score the bulk of the goals to ever be successful....

I know where you're coming from Valley - Ayew has always been a strange fit and I'm not entirely sure where he can play if we get the likes of a Bony-esque player in. It's clear that we play best with width and Ayew doesn't fit that game plan. But without someone who can score goals - someone who we KNOW that can score goals - coming in I don't want to see Ayew go out the door.

Agree. It would be daft to get rid of Ayew before bringing in a quality striker.

That's not necessarily true , we brought Siggy in on loan with Rodgers and we were successful . Graham's goals dried up and Siggy's took over .
Our strikers basically sh:t the bed this season and Siggy's goals have helped us be successful again in the end .
Goals are where you find them .....

It would be daft to try to arrange a team around a player too...

Who Ayew? For me it's simple, he plays up front or not at all. He buggers up the balance of the team anywhere else.

After the game against Man U at the end of August till the game before Liverpool our last game ...Ayew had 5 goals in 27 premier league games , this is the time in which we fell slowly into relegation trouble .
To say you can't get rid of him because he is our top scorer during this time is not looking at the big picture .
Having a top goal scorer at 5 goals during this time and few points being put on the board is a massive , massive problem which all players are a part of , including Ayew . Super player but holding our style at bay as he scores here and there while nobody else scores at all . Either change our style or sell him.
Last season , our best season totals ever , when all were worried about where goals would come from when Bony left , Ki scored 7 goals in his last 20 Premier League games .
I think Ki has it in him to score a lot more goals , given the right situation .... This season's situation helped no one IMO ,

You could put it another way saying that he only scored 5 in 27 maybe isn't looking at the bigger picture either, In those 27 games who else scored more than 5. Siggy I would guess so even from out wide he has contributed something, how many goals have our other wingers scored, probably not 5 between them.
To be fair if he goes he goes. I am not bothered either way, I am not sure he has been used correctly by all 3 managers, maybe we should try him as a central striker again for the last 2 games.

You have to have a striker if you only play one to at least guarantee 15 -20+ goals a season. If you play two up front then they share that total and you also need others to chip in with 8 - 10 goals between them in a season....

To me , here is the problem . If you leave Gomis's and Ayew's early success and Siggy's late success out of the picture ........our next top scorers are Williams and Paloschi .Ki's goals dried up from last season like a drought .Routledge didn't get his " 3 or so " goals because Monk suddenly dropped Dyer and Routledge , for Montero and Ayew . Ayew is twice the player as Dyer and Routledge , just not as Swansea wingers . If Ayew stays , that's good .He must learn a new role at the club though , and alarms go off with me when you try to change a player . The advantage of having a guy like Routledge who can be trusted on either wing is huge . Barrow is still basically an unused player , we look good with the Routlegde , Barrow , Montero situation .
Siggy , Ki and Cork has me really excited . Throw in Britton and possibly Fer .
Paloschi, Ayew and possibly Eder isn't the worst .
Amat , Fernandez and Williams is basically AWESOME .
Left and right back need to strengthen dramatically ,especially right .
Maybe I'm to negative about our chances next season , tools are there , the right mechanic is a matter of opinion.
But if this team basically stays together , maybe we will forge ahead next season .

I thought you said we'd be relegated without Guidolin next season and be in a relegation battle if we kept him. Nothing wrong with changing your mind but what's brought on the change of heart?

I couldn't give two hoots who guildo plays for the last two games. I would give the strikers role to that kid who has been so impressive with the U21's and a couple of others should be considered imo.... Give the reserve keeper a game and make Leon captain as i dont think he will get many more games if any next season if we get Joe Allen back with us. I would give some of the players who have been waiting patently for their chance all season a start .....We have nothing to lose except a couple of thousand quid on where we finish and that goes to the players. Take advantage of the situation i say.......Let the Tea lady pick the team for all i care..<laugh>

I have some sympathy with that view Dai but it's more than a couple of thousand quid per place.

Wishful thinking in a positive manner .
You should try it , instead of wading through my thoughts and what I mean and say .

Ki has been appaling this season and for that reason he hasn't played and his performances don't justify a place in the starting line up. yes he was worthy of a place in the team, he hasn't showed anything like that form this season and wouldn't be surprised if he was on his toes in the summer and if he performs the way he did last year then I would be no loss, however if the new manager can get out of him what we had last season then I would be happy to keep him, it seems the 3 managers we had this year couldn't.

It is not the PL though, some players just don't suit it and I think Eder is one, mind you he wasn't really given much of a chance, we will not see him again.
