He played a lot of games for Blackburn on loan last season. He’s very good on the ball but physically and defensively weak. Doesn’t address the current issues in midfield but Rosenior seems obsessed with having a midfield of players who are exclusively good with the ball but ****e without it.
Rosie obviously doesn’t see it as a problem, although I don’t see why he’s bringing another midfielder in. He isn’t going to spoil slater and seri up. Is this Morton going to be in front of simons ?

I worry it’s another loan spot used on a player that won’t be a regular, when we have Simons sat getting splinters and we’ve shipped woods out

I would prefer to see Simons given an extended run in the team, he could improve alot with it and would do his confidence the world of good.

If its Morton he'll come into contention for either CM berth, and remember we lose Seri for the AFCON, so I think he's not likely to be short of an opportunity to play.

Wouldn't be surprised if Simons goes out in a development loan if another DM comes in though.

I agree he would play but like Geo said it's another loan and a young one at that so we are improving other teams players for them by giving them game time when we do have rated young players like Simons we should be bringing forward ourselves.

Also i don't think Morton would be available for transfer at the end of the season so it is a year wasted Simons could have had and he could turn out to be a top talent LR did say he rated him highly so play him.

In an ideal world, yeah - not sure Simons is quite there yet though if we want to be aiming top 10.

Morton alongside Seri or Slater is the same issue as Seri and Slater. It’s a waste of a loan spot. Talented player but Rosenior really needs to get a grip and admit that we need a ball-winner because if he continues with this foolish notion of playing two players in a double pivot who are anonymous out of possession, we will get overran in midfield all season just like last night.

If it were up to me I'd like the security of an enforcer type - even just in the squad mix as a different option when we're under the cosh, but I can also accept there are different ways of playing that can be successful.

Our defensive record was pretty damn good under Rosenior from November onwards so can also see why he may be prioritising the creative aspect in this window.

I'd like to think that if we really are struggling to keep the back door shut then it would become obvious to the club hierarchy between now and Jan and would hopefully be addressed then.

I really don't see why Slater is an automatic starter in the deep midfield role that Rosie has him playing.
Yes he has popped up with some vital goals on occasions but that's usually when he's drifted into a more advanced role.
In most games, I don't notice anything of noteworthy that Slater does other than short passes back to the defenders.

I also don't see the point of trying to get Tyler Morton in.
Is he really going to be that much better than Xavier?

He's a very different player than Simons. He's also had a full season as a key player in a reasonably successful side at this level.

What actually is a double pivot?
I thought it was just a piss take of somethig

It’s the ‘2’ in a 4-2-3-1. One is usually a ball-winner and the other is a box-to-box player or a deep playmaker. Rosenior has bucked the trend by having a deep playmaker and box-to-box player and no ball-winner.

If Morton does end up being signed, I think he’ll fairly quickly end up replacing Slater.
Tyler Morton would be a fantastic signing for us. Anyone who doesn't know how good he is look for quotes from Klopp and watch his videos from at Blackburn last season.
I work on the wirral and some of the lads at work know his family, he is a real talent. Far better than Simons currently is and well capable of playing in the cdm role.

Defensively, he leaves a lot to be desired though.

He does press high though and I can somewhat see what he's thinking. Better to win the ball back on the edge of their box than deep in our own half and we are usually pretty good at that.

The tradeoff is that we're possibly a bit more susceptible on the counter.
