Roma's academy players are very talented, though. They have players that, if we didn't have a relationship with them, we'd be paying a lot more for. It isn't the case that we're a feeder club, it's more that we're utilising a partnership. If Greaves goes somewhere like Villa or Burnley, are they likely to loan him back? If he goes to Roma, which he probably will do, it's more than likely we'll ask that he is loaned back to us.
Our best prospects will always be sold, the fact that it's to a club that we have a relationship with doesn't really change anything.
The benefits are that we have access to one of the best academies in Europe as an option for player loans without having to compete with other clubs, and in doing so strengthen our chances of being promoted, which is of course the main aim.
I have a hunch that we're trying to get him permanently. It's a bit of a waste of a loan spot when we've only got 3 left to play with
Surely the only way they'll be open to selling their academy players to us cheaply is if we're willing to sell Greaves to them cheaply.
I've never been a fan of Italian football so who have the Roma academy produced recently?
Yeh I think your probably right, trying to get a cheap deal on the basis he's not done anything yet and his contract is running down. Do Brighton have a year extension option or anything?

Rúben Vinagre (loan)
Given we’re apparently looking at 5-6 incomings this summer, not including academy players, that’s another 2-3 to expect unless Óscar and Greaves go. Woods may stay and Docherty won’t be sold now this summer on account of his injury. Think Fleming will go permanently if Cox joins. Longman needs to go out on loan. Sinik may go as well.

Re Roma.... there hasn't been one rumour even on here of any incoming from them. Good luck to `JG if he gets the chance to go there.
I just wish LR would say what he means and means what he says.
If he did that he'd be Warnock. It's not a common trait among managers these days, particularly the younger ones
They just sold a Swedish/Bosnian lad to Ajax. Felix Gyan at Sassuolo, Nicholas Zalewski, Gianluca Scammaca, Davide Frattesi, Lorenzo and Luca Pellegrini, Alessio Romagnoli, Matteo Politano, Pizza Vulcano, Tagliatelle Pescatore, Pepperoni Calzone...
Okay, those last three were items from an Italian Restaurant, but they consistently produce international players and at least three of the above have represented their country at full international level.
His nan may be from Hull but LR is not a Yorkshireman.
They wouldn't pay less to sign him, we wouldn't be forking out for their players unless we were in the Premier League, any signings from there would almost certainly be coming in on loan.
In response to your other post, we've got our eyes on a midfielder and a striker from there.
C'mon we aren't only signing 5/6. We're up to 3 already, Cox and Connolly seems likely and we still want a keeper, a centre half, a winger, a no.10 and probably Max Bird if we can afford him

Italian clubs are notoriously tight when it comes to transfer fees, so not sure the partnership would be as lucrative as we may hope when it comes to selling our best talent, so not sure I love the idea of Vaughan already being hawked off 6 months after coming into the side.
I hated that quote from Tan who sounded almost excited about the prospect of Vaughan going to Roma. Bristol City look like they're getting £20m for Scott, good player but a bit nuts to me. There's no reason we can't get similar for Vaughan in 12 months and I couldn't see Roma paying that.
Maybe I'm mad but I don't see why going to Roma is such a pull. I'd personally prefer to go to the PL. You don't have to acclimatise to a new culture, learn a new language and it's not like they're a CL side either and Serie A isn't what it used to be either
