I’ll be disappointed for him if he ends up in non-league again. At his age, and his ability, he should be setting his sights for League Two at least.

There are some well funded clubs in the National league though, I agree he should be aiming for a EFL league 1/2 side and he won't be sort of offers.

I think they're certainly a good example, but people talk as if it's easy for every club to just start doing the same. Clubs have wanted to buy cheap and sell high for years, it's actually pulling it off that's the hard part. It'll be fascinating to see how long it continues working for Brighton, and how long it takes the richer clubs to catch up in that regard.

The richer clubs don't ever need to catch up, they all have fantastic academies. It's the financial constraints that need too be put in place too make the playing field a much more level surface for all clubs by eufa & fifa, too stop the bigger clubs with multi-million/billion pound owners/consortium's being able to acquire any player on the planet at whatever cost to keep the door firmly closed for smaller clubs. It happens in every company in the world & unfortunately (to me anyway!)...it's made all sports(not the the shop in Hull, years ago) less attractive to fans...mini rant over

Interesting post that... maybe some sort of FFP (or similar) which restricts the spend on young players up to X age or the number they have in any given academy.

Maybe registration rules similar to the first team with some kind of stipulation that they need to be registered to be under contract. That would then push a lot of young talent down the leagues and strengthen the entire pyramid, where often they would be hung on to by their parent clubs despite little chance of getting any opportunity and eventually stagnating.

I've thought for a long time that one practical and simple way to even things up (and improve chances for English players) would be to limit the numbers in an academy at each age group level. mybe combine that with a limit on how many players can be out on loan once over 21.

There was a lot of talk about all that on Talksport Radio on Sunday evening (I had a long car journey!). All agreed something needs to be done.

got any saucy little updates for us Howden, first day back at work this week needs livening up…

Nothing ATM, only things that I'm hearing are coming from agents not involved in our players or players they are talking about so not taking much notice yet.

Last I heard the LB was close and signing was all but done. But that was 10ish days ago.

The club's keeping a tight ship ATM and I think that's good for us
