With financial rules, teams now have to develop from within, as revenue from gates and the EFL etc is not enough to build a good squad to compete.

Considering we've got limited resources, it's just not worth it. You'd expect the centre half we do get to be at either end of the age spectrum. He'd either be a young player who'll improve (I still think Bernard is a no brainer) or a Curtis Davies type (ideally a touch younger) who's got experience and leadership whilst still being very capable but happy to not play every week

Bernard is not the answer to move us forward.

His issue wasn't his ability, it was the fact that he didn't want to be there, he's been angling for the move to Athletico for two seasons now.
