Plenty of rumours circling about players we're interested in, mainly in CM.
A few things dont sit right for me. Firstly it's claimed these players will cost £2-4M, secondly its a congested area of the squad anyway and thirdly, we seem to have more pressing areas for improvement.

If BBM isn't looking for a squad overhaul and is after quality, not quantity, a CM possibly isnt where I'd expect big business or we'll be disappointed elsewhere.

It'll be interesting to see what he's got up his sleeve.

A 22 year old 24 cap Estonian international is the latest rumour.

With Wintle gone we obviously need a new defensive midfielder, ideally with some experience. Yes, we have some youngsters who could do the job in the future but they have done little or no time in the Championship.

Whether or not VT wants to pay out for the guy mentioned above or a much lower amount for someone like Charlie Savage none of us will know until it happens but we cannot rely on existing youngsters to take on the mantle in what will be a much tougher league.

As others have said we could use a dominant new cb, a winger with a more reliable end product and another centre forward as, while I admire Robinson's value to the team, he has no pace and to me is past his use by date.

Agree with all that Bluey, but I just wonder if Robinson might surprise us all this season. His goals/minutes ratio is far better than Salech and he has the ability to unlock a defence on his own rather than relying on a "service".

By all accounts he's a great squad player and whilst disappointed with his selection ratio, is very supportive of the overall "cause". I used to think he was selfish on the pitch to the detriment of the team, but his assist in laying on Salech's goal for the fifth against Northampton was as unselfish as you can get - he could easily have hit that himself.

Robbo could have a big part to play as a top squad member in what looks to be lining up to be another very young squad in a difficult division.

I’m afraid I don’t share your optimism on Robinson. He doesn’t do enough off the ball and his lack of pace shows. A bench warmer at best - he’s not far off being a genuine journeyman.

Im hoping that signings like that are a thing of the past. Certainly while BBM is around.
We'll know come 1st Sept.

"The last two seasons have been a bit of a disaster for the forward, who's played 55 League games for Sheffield Wednesday in that time without scoring."

At least Robbo's got a few in that time.................<laugh>

We are only talking about Lawlor being trasfered and the price of £20 million is being bantered about dont you think he is worth a lot more than that, with the money being paid for some players, and with Lawlor being only twenty and a Welsh international, and has a full season behind him,i think we should be looking at 30 40 million, and if we do sell him which i hope we dont for god sake put a sell on clause of %10.

Lawlor is the sort of player we could build a team around. However, money talks. I read yesterday that WH are targetting him, though not sure what their fanacial position will be post relegation.
If, and its a big if, the money for Lawlor was suitably re-invested, half of it even, it could well move the club further forward than keeping him.
To be fair, if Tan trousered the cash I wouldn't begrudge him it, he's ploughed a lot into the club.
However it plays out, we are in a more robust place with Tan than when we sold Ramsey for buttons as we needed the cash. Was it really that long ago that we sold an accademy product for meaningful cash?

I just hope that BBM can keep adding value to players so we can either use them in an improving team or generate more cash for thm than we would have before BBM's arrival.

Key to all of that, keep hold of BBM.

Incoming?............and not a player...................<laugh>

A few years ago maybe but do we really now want a porn broker (see what I did there?) involved in any part of running our club? Masky don't bother replying.

Okay the pre-match and half time big screen features may be more "interesting".

It appears that in recent years he rarely got his wallet out to give the Spammers financial support.

This was always going to happen - do City sell and spend money on replacements?

We were having the debate on the Lawlor thread William started.
Depends on how much they want to pay.
If he stays with us another year, he'll get more exposure, possibly be wanted by a team higher up the food chain and get us £5-10m more than we'd get now.
With 3 years to run on his contract, I'd hang on to him for 12 months.

Just how good is Lawlor anyway? Despite lavish praise from Bellamy and a couple of spectacular solo "headline" goals for City, in all honesty he's just a good prospect who's had a stellar initial first team season as a youngster. In reality, he's an appreciating asset who has a distinct financial value to the club.

Cynical? Maybe, but if we forget the "home grown" sentiment and view this from the running a business point of view, a hefty punch in the wallet will do us no harm. We got £10M off Luton for the much lesser talented McGuinness and that was good business, but the money was wasted.

If anything above that figure came in for Lawlor and he was personally up for it, I'd say negotiate it up, take the money and move on - but only if it was made available for BBM's squad building. Taking the cash to reduce debt would be very short term and alienate support.

We've never really benefited from home grown player sales unlike Swansea who made it an art form over the years. We have a chance to promote and build this club through good player management and not just glory in the "prospects" coming through.

Would the loss of Lawlor affect our prospects next season? That depends soley on BBM and his management team who should be backed with any cash that became available rather than depending upon Tan to put his hand in his pocket again. Sometimes you have to capitalise your assets.
