I agree that Gray and Albrighton are providers i.e. they can makes assists but no creators - they require someone else to create the opportunity for them, to make the cutting passes to them in space and all the rest.Mahrez has become too predictable playing on the right. Everyone knows he's going to come inside on his left foot and he's too easily crowded out and loses possession too often. And he leaves us too exposed defensively down that flank.
I'd have to disagree that Gray and Albrighton aren't providers. Albrighton last season was the one going past defenders and getting decent balls into the box, with many complaining that he was taken off when Slimani was brought on, which made little sense. Gray hasn't been given a chance as yet. From what little we have seen, he clearly has the pace and confidence to go past defenders; it's then down to the coaches on the training ground to make sure the rest of the strikers/midfielders are all on the same page and know what should happen after that.
2 seasons ago we had both Mahrez and Drinkwater doing that. Last Drinkwater was shocking and completely out of form so we relied almost solely on Mahrez to create but because team knew that, like you said he gets crowded out and loses possession.
Mahrez does cut inside a lot in the friendlies but that is because he is told to - look at the movements of the forwards and they run wide trying to drag opponents out of space for him. It is really annoying that we seem to do it all the time but you can't solely blame him for team tactics.
To be clear I'm not a Mahrez fanboy, I'm a Leicester fan and from what I'm seeing is that without him we have a real lack of creativity and we aren't linked with anyone with any to replace him so I hope he stays and Andy King does make sure he doesn't down tools.
If we decide to **** the world and drop £50M on the likes of Siggurdson then I'll happily let the door hit his arse on the way out.
. Chelsea fans forum are in meltdown understandably
Mahrez is trying to force through the move to Roma. If that's the same force he shows on the pitch then he could be here for some considerable time yet!
