Massive budgets resulting in people playing it safe and so very little creativity. And it hasn’t really been working in film/tv

That isn’t the same - the suggestion here is jumping in and signing someone Man City wants to sign before they get them. Not taking a player from them and giving them a buy back and sell on clause. They are different things
How often has a significantly smaller club jumped in and offered first team football to someone about to sign for one of the main clubs and that actually happened? Genuine question. I’m sure it must have happened a couple of times but it doesn’t seem common.
I don't have a strong opinion on his ability as a player. For me it's as simple as the club need to bring in some money, the manager isn't going to pick him (much) and the manager probably isn't going to get sacked any time soon. Therefore he needs to be moved on.

I’m just discussing people bringing up things in the transfer rumours thread. If the intention is that names suggested aren’t discussed seriously then it feels a little pointless to even mention them. But this is presumably one of those situations where tone gets lost from this being a solely written medium

Exactly. I think at some point Alex Ferguson said something like he'd never pick Le Tissier in his team but he'd also never want him playing against his team.
Yeah it seems like people have slightly misremembering how Le Tiss was frozen out of the England set up. And I suspect if he had gone to Manchester United he would have fallen out with Ferguson pretty quickly
Don't think anyone is calling him Maradona. Just saying they prefer watching unpredictable flair to 200 five yard passes in our own half.
Football is a form of entertainment ultimately so people are bound to be disappointed when players they enjoy watching move on.

I don’t think taking a stick to WF is allowed. Then it becomes walking Shinty. My weapon of choice is my right shoulder. I do ‘stumble’ a lot. Saints invented walking football when they signed Le God.
Exactly, I was at our away game against Watford last season.
I don’t know if it was ultimately Charly’s final match for us, but he was absolutely terrible in that game.
His passing was short, he miss-controlled and got caught in possession a lot. I think I made a comment at the time that his mind almost worked quicker than his body, too busy thinking about what he was going to do and not what he was actually doing.
He’s an instinctive player and I don’t think he’ll play consistently beyond our current level, but whilst we don’t have a player obviously better in his position, I reserve my right to be annoyed at this sale.
Frozen out by managers he effectively turned down when they were at their respective clubs? Chelsea/Tottenham. England’s loss in my view.
That’s not to point. It’s that style still wasn’t massively encouraged. Going further back the bitter irony of it all was Hoddle himself was stymied by the way England was set up. He was also considered too adventurous (from what I’ve been told at least - but I always assumed it was mostly injuries)
Football is too autonomous these days. Athletes and passers doing what they're told instead of doing things instinctively
LeTiss should have been included in the Euros/WC squads. Just in case of having a late freekick opportunity and penalty shootouts. How many trophies could have England won, if this was the case?
I agree with the reasons listed about why people are annoyed.. who else in our squad is going to rattle a 25 yard curler into the top corner out of nowhere?
Remains to be seen. But so far… the attacking prowess is nowhere to be seen and we have sold one of the only players that we know for sure can beat players and shoot at the top level.
