Someone I work with said he hates football now. “Just a load of blokes who go to the gym, are boring as **** and play the same way” was his in depth analysis of modern football

He claims 90s football was much better but it was before my time

Manchester City are considering a move for 19-year-old Iceland striker Orri Oskarsson from FC Copenhagen.

(Maybe we should take a look).

    And for less than £20m

I saw the rumours last night, so for the past 24 hours I've just had visions of him spending the next two years smashing goals in for us, on his way to ultimately becoming the next big thing. Total fantasy, of course. But I do trust City's recruitment guys far more than our own!

Not at all…. My thoughts on Martin didn’t even come into it. Is he going to keep us in the Prem… probably not…. Have SR got a fixed idea about the style and type of football we should be playing…. Maybe… is Charlie Alcaraz the answer to all our problems…. Nope…

I suspect that DTLW is right and his agents have briefed clubs from Europe not to bother…

Must say I'm a big believer of that bit in bold. So many teams seem to play basically the same way now I find it incredibly dull. A huge lack of spontaneity is an issue for me personally as the unexpected and unpredictable is what makes the game great.

I thought DTLW was suggesting nobody in Europe is interested in Alcaraz and so to save face his agents have been briefing that he wants to go back to South America.

Literally no one is saying this. I don’t like Martin, don’t like the style of play, but think Charly is overrated.

That's what my (if I'm being honest, probably a bit over the top) love-in regarding Charly comes from. Football is nothing without the players who can create something from nothing, the players who get you doing that weird half sitting hover when they get the ball anywhere near the opponents half and turn a man. Does anyone remember "Showboat" on soccer AM? Used to be full of individual flair and dare I say, a touch of ****ing panache. Now we get this......

It was either Shearer or Lineker on a recent edition of their podcast who said exactly the same. Football is too much about being an elite athlete and playing safe now. Would you get Le Tissier or Cantona today?

Yep as I've said before for all Charly didn't hit the heights last season we all expected him to he still carried that kind of aura where whenever he picked up the ball in a bit of space it felt like the stadium collectively held its breath in anticipation.

Undoubtedly the best type of player to watch in the flesh. Hopefully Fernandes can pick up that mantle.

Does anyone here really think we can steal a target from Man City? Even with us saying “you will start for us”. It’s not realistic. People really need to be more realistic.

Of course not, but you’re relying on them actually going for him. And if they did, he sounds like a loan in the making.

I interpreted it as him not wanting to stay in Europe. But if it is either then it suggests keeping him and expecting him to swashbuckle our way to safety with a series of virtuoso performances was never really on the cards

It's just ****e. ****s on social media ****ing themselves silly over possession/passing stats, inverted full backs, XG, calling midfielders by numbers, and so on. Honestly bores me to tears.

Who was it who said that football is a simple game complicated by idiots? Shankley? Never a truer word spoken imo.

A loan? They want someone who can come as cover for Haaland. So if he were to become a loan it would be for the 25/26 season

We’ll this has happened with some players no? Lavia? Some players get ****ed off or advised otherwise. There are are always players that don’t take the ‘elite’ predictable route for a variety of reasons. Think this is good for football.

I think you're taking it all a little bit too seriously/literally. They probably aren't really going to sign this lad, and if they do, it's not going to be as cover for Haaland this season.
