Maybe I’m overreacting but I think if I am Saints, I’m withdrawing the offer at this point and just moving on. With all due respect, Ché isn’t the sort of player who can do this sort of thing

(I totally get why the club would prefer if he renewed as a bang average/OK PL striker with no fee involved)
It makes sense to move on to other targets but leave the offer on the table until we are ready to move.

I find it very worrying that should Che condescend to start negotiating a new contract with us, we would bite his arm off?
Surely we can do better, at best he's mid to lower Championship level, who's goal scoring record is pretty lousy, probably because his left foot is only used to stand on.
Tear up the contract offer and move on.

Or reduce the salary on offer for every day that passes

I doubt you need to set him a deadline or anything. The club just need to assume he's leaving and move ahead on that basis. If at some point he decides he does want to stay then at that point the club can make a decision whether or not to agree the contract he's been offered.

Not convinced you can renege on a contract that’s been offered in that way.

Yeah, that could be a problem in the real world but football seems to work to its own very different rules so I wouldn't want to guess. Look at tapping up. Technically illegal but happens all the time. The other thing is, even if that is an issue the club can presumably withdraw the offer at any time. If we sign new players and don't want Adams any more we can withdraw the offer as they sign. And in that scenario would he want to stay anyway?

Che and the club have a strange marriage, both think they can do better, but neither ready to end it all.
“Seeing other people. At least that’s what we say we are doing.” As Belle and Sebastian once sang

Kante, Kudus & Bowen - West Ham could be one to watch

I'm going to be very interested to see how Stewart goes in pre-season friendlies. Given that he was a Russ signing, cost £10m and seemed to be a late bloomer - I'm holding out hope that he's at least a better option for us than Mara of the bench / late in games / in a pinch.

If he doesn' t look the part then we are really left with just Armstrong, who may be more effective out wide anyway in the PL and who certainly has no more guarantees of scoring goals at PL level this time around.

We are clearly going to need to spend a significant amount on (probably multiple) strikers come what may, and use loans there too, but would be a nice bonus if Stewart shows a bit of something in reserve.
