Well, he seems to have all the attributes that RM detests! Once l worked put who l was supposed to me looking at (yes, probably is me..) he certainly can play long, raking, passes, has a very direct style of playing, so l am why RM wanted him. Pleased with what l saw, but somewhat bemused by the transfer. BTW, if you have not watched yet, turn off the volume, the music is very annoying.

It's a bit of a myth this whole thing about RM not liking fast and direct players. The only reason he doesn't trust Charlie is because Charlie wasn't good enough last season. He was given plenty of chances. Same can be said for Sulemana. Both underperformed and rightfully lost their places in the team. Stu and Edozie are both direct and RM kept picking them.

Charlie has looked good in pre-season, seems to have the right attitude, wants to stay and looked positive when he came on yesterday. I think he’s well worth keeping.

I hope we can sell him, but Sulemana is still returning from the injury he picked up in pre-season I believe.

Good. Hopefully he recovers sufficiently enough to get a move elsewhere, otherwise I fear he'll just waste a bench spot ahead of Dibling/SAA

I’m perfectly happy signing Fernandes as an option for Joe and Will, but when it comes to the #10 I do wonder if we’re looking to fix a problem that we already have a solution for.

Fernandes isn't even a starter yet at Sporting, so I don't think he will expect to be a starter in a Prem team immediately. And Charly is still only 21 himself. Having them both would be the best solution rather than gambling on one or the other.

Would be great to see a midfield of Downes - Charly - Fernandes at some point.

Leicester signing Ollie Skipp for £25m from Spurs

*awaits Greg saying what an insane fee this is
Probably explains why we haven’t finalised that. 20m fixed isn’t too much different to what we paid for Downes and Skipp has (I think) played lots premier league games and is young and English. The Carvalho comments are that he hasn’t really done anything to warrant the fee but more “might”. Skipp seems closer to that fee now in my view at least

Skipp and that fee is a highlight of how a 15m player from around 6 years ago is a 20-25m player now

I expect spurs are only really selling because he isn’t quite good enough for the top of the premier league and he will be 100% profit for PSR

It’s bin reported elsewhere as £20m which seems more of a bargain bin price. He’s a load of rubbish though. Wheelie glad we weren’t in at that price. Some people think he was wasted at Spurs but that’s just trash talk.

What happened with Leicester and the PSR stuff? Thought there was talk a while back that they were getting deducted points and a transfer ban?

Talk still ongoing. Think I read the other day that it might drag on into early 2025. Joke.

I think the points deduction is still likely but haven’t been following it closely, as to when it will happen I assume similar times to Forest/Everton last season so next year

Do we think BBD is consider a wide option or a striker? Because Saintsweb have seem to come up with this idea that the “consensus” is we still need a goalkeeper, attacking midfielder and a “forward”. I know the term “forward” is used more broadly now but I get the impression they mean central striker. We’ve already signed two. Is this just a weird attitude where because neither are 20m+ then they don’t count / can’t be good enough for what we need ?

Indications from TSP is Sulemana and Stewart are back in training and aiming for League Cup. So no indication they are going. Giving forward options of Armstrong, Archer, BBD, Edozie, Stewart, Sulemana, Sam Amo and Dibling. Is that good enough - probably not. But there aren’t the spaces from what I can see. And that’s for 2 or 3 spots. And assuming Fraser doesn’t join as well

And assuming Mara and Onuachu are offloaded
