Not one backward ball there. This kid looks quality. You dont play 10 times for Leverkusen last season if you're not.
Him and Zambrano in midfield should be something special hopefully.

At this time his agent is in the process of documenting the annual transfer with a mandatory purchase option.

Great post gfaw. We would have loved this three years ago.I doubt anyone will disagree with you.
There was so much to put right though from the last regime (and to be fair, even legacies from the ones before that even). There really wasn't much of a foundation left to build on when the season ended this May. The squad was incredibly unbalanced in so many important respects. The best players were on loans to us, with little to zero chance of us keeping them. Our 2 best players were pretty much nailed on to be leaving. All in all, it was an absolute mess.
The club have imo done a great job in moving out a lot of players that needed to go. Some were good professionals that we can hope flourish elsewhere (in lower divisions), others less so.
I think the club are now doing a great job in terms of the rebuild. It's being done far differently to how it was done under Rosenior and the earlier recruitment team. A lot of previous issues are finally being addressed, from leadership, to physicality, to balance within the squad, etc etc. More work to be done, and some of the signings of course might not work out in practice, but to me it's like night versus day. I suspect that's down to some harsh lessons learned (by Acun, Tan, Beri and others involved) but also, importantly, to Tim Walter i.e. I think we are seeing the benefit of having a coach who has 'managerial' experience, not just ideas & smart talk.
The frustration has of course been that it's taken so long for players to start coming in and consequently we are / risk playing serious catch up. But hopefully the frustrations will prove worth it as we seem to be now building something that really does mean, finally, we don't have a massive rebuild every season and we have a squad that is much more balanced, that includes a number of on the field 'leaders', has more nous, physicality, etc to go along with the technical ability.
We may well have to be a bit more patient though till the end of this window and for it all to click. We'll surely see big progress after the international break, and I expect there'll be further strengthening in January and next summer. Acun has to date got so much off the field stuff going in the right direction, and to me it now feels like we are finally seeing things going in the right direction in terms of on the field too.

Loan with obligation to buy: Walter and Hull City snap up Gustavo Puerta

Listen to article now
Bayer 04 had already reached an agreement with Bröndby IF on the transfer of Leverkusen midfielder Gustavo Puerta. But now the young Colombian has decided to join Hull City from the English Championship.
Gustavo Puerta's move from Bayer 04 to English second division club Hull City is imminent. The Championship club, which has been coached by former HSV coach Tim Walter since this season, is loaning the 21-year-old until the end of the season - with an obligation to buy, but subject to a certain number of appearances.
The transfer fee for the factory club is then expected to be between four and five million euros. A good deal for the German double winner, who signed the midfielder from Bogota FC in January 2023 for a transfer fee of one million euros.
Financially similar to the Bröndby deal
In Leverkusen, the 30-time Colombian U-20 international was barely used last season due to the extremely strong competition in the double six and was almost only a spectator, especially in the second half of the season.
After seven appearances before the winter break, in which he was in the starting eleven twice in the last two, less significant group matches in the Europa League, the right-footer only played a total of 20 minutes in three short appearances for Bayer 04 in 2024. Now Puerta wants to take the next step at Hull City and advance his career as a regular.
An immediate sale of Puerta to Bröndby IF would only have been more financially attractive at first glance. Bayer had agreed a fixed transfer fee of €3.5 million plus €1 million in possible bonuses with the Danes. The Bundesliga club had also agreed an exceptionally high resale fee with Bröndby IF. But the deal with Hull City is said to contain similar components to the previously negotiated transfer to the traditional Danish club
