My son and his wife have just adopted 2 girls. The process was rigorous (and rightly so) and took about 18 months. Hopefully the cases you refer to are few and far between nowadays. I am delighted to have 2 new grand daughters!

Was rife back in the old days and seemed alot easier to adopt.

My wife and I acted as referees for friends adopting. Yes, it's rigorous and yes, it needs to be. Happy result for our friends and their kids.

He'll be applying for a work permit, not citizenship.
