Again, I have been unequivocal that I was not disputing the length of our transfers at all.

My point was regarding the specific timeline of Marvin's transfer, which you cannot know if it was delayed or not, as you have no idea of the timeline. Simple as that.

But agreed -, let's leave it there, must be boring everyone on here.
No no carry on, I’m enjoying it

I think we need to see at least two new wingers in before next Saturday. I’ve watched all the pre-season friendlies on Tigers+ and Giles at left-wing is just not it. Longman’s looked okay and I would like to see him on the left and Ömür on the right against Reading just so we can see how Giles plays under Walter at left-back (which is presumably the position we’ve signed him for).

I was hoping people on here were right a few weeks ago when they said transfer business would surely pick up but it just hasn’t, barring Drameh and Mehlem. I would love to be a fly on the wall during these discussions between Acun, Kesler and Walter. Is Walter being too picky with targets proposed to him? Are Acun and Kesler haggling over pennies and delaying negotiations? I saw Baz saying that Liam Millar might be difficult to finalise. If so, move on to other targets because we haven’t got time on our side.

I suspect if we don't see Giles at Left Back against Reading it probably means he's off to Boro.

we spent 4m on giles.. its insane
he has to be left back surely

i can promise you
walter is furious about the signings atm
millar is almost def not signing btw

It's a big gamble for us though. If he does get a ban then that's a huge amount of money wasted for a club that was working on a tight budget to begin with.

Even if he doesn't get a ban, if the transfer doesn't work out - after all he's a 20 year old kid - it's a huge waste of money.

What’s interesting is that the clubs he was previously linked with could probably pay the £5 million or so plus any add-ons and just accept a potential ban if they rated him highly as a potential superstar like Caicedo. That money is nothing to Man Utd. Bournemouth and Brighton could probably do it too. The interest from those clubs has since cooled and he’s now joining us, a Championship club. It’s a much bigger risk for us.

Like I said, I hope we’ve done our due diligence but I’m wary.

You whine about not signing players, you whine about how long it takes to sign a player and when we about to sign one, you whine that he might be a waste of money.
Boring as ****.

its the perfect signing for him and also those big clubs
if he is as good as he can be
and the drug ban goes away
a top club spending 20m to sign him from us is nothing
he has the potential to be champions league level

You're welcome to put me on ignore.

Brady said it's a risk free signing from the perspective of other clubs, I was pointing out the risk for us. It's a discussion thread, we're discussing transfers.

Careful you aren't too negative!

I think he looks very good, I'm wary as you are though.

His body language during pre-season hasn’t been positive. Lots of arm-flailing and angry gesturing to his teammates.

I didn’t really rate him defensively last season and his crossing, his best quality, last season and during pre-season has been inconsistent. I don’t think he wants to be here but I don’t think the club want to sell because they know how bad it will look to supporters. Plus, it would be another player to replace.

i saw that too, but i think he just doesnt work with jacob
giles expects overlaps etc
but it never came, jacob is just not at that level of play off championship football

I’ve been shocked by how poor Jacob has been in pre-season. He was better in the second half against Fiorentina but he’s been woeful in every game I’ve seen him in pre-season. His positioning, his awareness, his ability on the ball etc. is National League-level.

I don’t want to be too hard on the lad because he plays with passion and gives his all but he is so far below the level of even a third-choice left-back for a Championship club. He’s not some raw teenager who can develop and iron out the flaws in his game either. He’s 23-years-old. If he’s not good enough to be a rotation player at this level at that age then he likely never will.

Under Rosenior, we gave quite lengthy new contracts to players like Vaughan and Jacob on the back of a few half-decent appearances despite them not actually being good enough. Callum Jones is another one. What was the point in that one?

If he was 17-years-old, I’d get it. However, he’s just turned 23. I actually think Jake Leake, another academy lad, is a better left-back than Jacob and he’s younger.

This is the danger of assuming young players' development is linear. We saw the same with Fleming and is why I'm cautious on Zombardo. Plenty were happy to sell Giles and just use Jacob. Not so sure anymore.
