And when the replacement can't sign because his club won't let him go because they haven't got a replacement, etc, etc? Come on, it isn't a house-buying chain where it all happens at the same time.

All hypothetical, and it may be that the club believes it has a ready replacement already at the club. I don't always believe what I see in The Press.

We sold Allsop and Tufan before we made good on the Giles obligation. The Philo and Ingram deals went through the same day.

It's not just about income, it's also about offloading the contractural wage liability.

We need to shift out to create our own budget.

Ingram was always going to go and the club must be confident there are enough targets of a better fit out there.

You speak as if we are top of the food chain, but very few clubs have the luxury of risking players coming in then not being able to offload the guy they've been brought to replace.

That's exactly what left us with a bloated squad full of expensive deadwood prior to this summer.

Obviously youngsters from prem clubs aren't significant enough investments to have a huge impact on those clubs in the same way, so they can often afford to bring in a first choice and let the cover go out after.

This summer we don't have that luxury.

Judge the keeper situation at the end of the window. I'm sure we'll have someone. Just like most of the other positions the club acknowledge they have to fill and are actively working on. That's when to judge the business, not half way through a restructure.

All sound arguments.

The club want another senior keeper in, it just isn't a priority at the moment now that Cartwright and Lo-Tutala have both broken through professionally last season and Owen Foster is doing well.

I've not seen Pandur and seriously hope you are right. Up top we have Oscar who I personally rate if we play to his strengths, but good strikers cost a decent amount of wedge. I'd like to think we could get Jay Stansfield here from Fulham for starters.

You missed the thing about the probationary licence and ffp limit did you?

We've clearly had to sell before we can buy otherwise the EFL wouldn't sign it off.
I have. Is this a new rule? I’ve never heard of it before. I just thought we had to stay within the £30odd mill debt? How long is Acun under probation? Again, it’s hardly a level playing field.

New owners have a 3 year probationary license period where they are under enhanced scrutiny and the E F L have to ratify any business to ensure there's no way we can breech FFP.

Basically if we're close to the limit then we have to create the headroom to do anything before they sign it off.

Honestly would love to see Cartwright given some more time in preseason. Has he been injured since Turkey?

Grimsby fans loved him

It’s odd this hasn’t been mentioned prior to this window. I recall Acun saying last season that he kept in close touch with EFL about FFP on every signing, but sold it as him showing real vigilance rather than the EFL imposing it on them.
