Hopefully it’s another deal that a fair bit down the line. Hughes and Millar would be 2 excellent additions.

I am. I am aware I might be in the minority, but we sacked Rosenior who just missed out on playoffs. I know it was more for ‘style of football’ reasons but if we don’t at least maintain being a club who can challenge for the playoffs, then I will deem the change as a failure. There is still time to put together a decent squad and I believe we have some great players at the club already. I am predicting Omur to be in Championship Team of the Season too. <cool>

I agree. I'd deem it a failure if we didn't improve and therefore finish in the play offs
I also don't fully believe this 'style of football' and believe it was at least partially due to not getting in the playoffs

I'm not sure it's quite that simple with the financial consequences of last season's gamble.

I suspect Liam would be working with a similarly restructured squad had he still been here.

I'm pretty sure we can't permanently support the level of resourcing Liam enjoyed from January onwards whoever was in charge.

Suspect we'll have to build and have another similar push when both the ffp headroom is there and there's a genuine footballing opportunity, like being there or thereabouts mid way through a season.

Think we can offer more minutes, but probably the least appealing of the 3

Did you note we made the bid on Friday and there's no report of an official bid from either of the other 2?

If they've been sitting on it nearly a week then surely they've had enough time to match it?

I doubt Leeds will move for a winger until one of Gnonto/Summerville are sold and Sheff U are limited whilst their takeover is up in the air. Hopefully gives us time to get a deal over the line

....... I don't mind 1 or 2 gambles from Turkey/abroad but when you're relaying on half your summer signings to adapt to a new league it becomes too much.[/QUOTE said:
Depends how good they are at passing the baton on.

Or the reason it isn't over the line yet is the player is delaying to see what happens?

Not that he'll be the only left winger on their lists.

Maybe not but I'm a simple person

Again it would be another astute signing. One of Preston’s best players - so can cut it in the Championship and at the age of 24 could have a decent sell on value.

Seems like this brains team are using their ….brains!
I hear what you're saying, but at what point do we try and build a team without considering sell-on values?

We've always been a selling Club when we've had to be or when we've unearthed a real jewel but buying players with the sole view of making a buck will only result in the very situation we're in at the moment...ie:-Short on seasoned first team players ready to hit the ground running.

It's only an opinion but it makes absolutely no sense to me at all to rip up the foundations every season and chase the money?

If this is the business model in Championship Football nowadays, then to me it could well signal the end of Joe Public paying to watch it.

Buying with a view to profit doesn't inevitably mean a club is turning over each player every year.

But obviously you don't want them reaching the end of the contracts so they move upwards for nowt and someone else benefits from the work we put in improving them.

And there's simply no evidence that clubs attendances are dwindling at the clubs who employ a similar strategy. In fact I'd suspect the figures show the opposite.

Some other free agent keepers available:

Jiri Pavlenka (released by Werder Bremen)

Gokhan Akkan (Caykur Rizespor)

Remy Descamps (FC Nantes)

Helton (Antalyaspor)

Loris Karius (Newcastle United)

Timo Horn (RB Salzburg)

Tomas Koubek (FC Augsburg)

Etrit Berisha (Empoli)

Leeds will be looking higher than Miller if they sell Summerville.

Yeah, I'd think Sheff U are the more likely threat.

Isn't it strange how there's always 2 other clubs interested as soon as journos pick up on a link? Why not more, as is likely to be the case in reality.
