Ike Ugbo maybe for the forward? Too ambitious?

The only signing less exciting than Ike Ugbo would be Uke Igbo and he doesn't exist. **** me I really hope it isn't. I thought it was Glatzel coming in first.

We might be in for Levin Oztunali as well, though he's a sort of Tufan style player who can double up as both an energetic midfielder and a left winger. Going cheap apparently.

Because it shows a lack of planning. If I came back to work in September after the summer holidays and half the teaching staff had handed their notices in July and nobody had been hired to replace them, my opinion of the school would be ‘this is ****ing embarrassing’.
Don't they have to have handed their notice in by 31st May to be able to not come back after the summer holidays? Big ask to replace a July resigner.

Two of last season's star men, neither will be easy to replace. Greaves, the hometown hero, was named in the Championship's Team of the Season while Philogene ended the campaign with 12 goals and six assists - the club's top scorer - along with a flurry of England Under-21 caps. Even if City expected the double departure, it doesn't make it any easier to fill that void and it could be costly at that.

In return for selling two of the best, and most sought-after talents outside the big league, the Tigers will recoup a significant transfer fee understood to be in the region of £40m plus some sizeable sell-on clauses, should either leave Portman Road in the near future, but that sale will not see City suddenly armed with a huge wedge of cash, they will not be splashing millions around, that is not a luxury they'll enjoy.

Owner Acun Ilicali has been at pains to explain in recent months the club's dalliance with Financial Fair Play (FFP), and how they've been walking the proverbial tightrope in recent windows, particularly after last season's ambitious exertions which saw them invest heavily both in the permanent and loan market in a bid to win promotion, which ultimately fell desperately short.

Despite a huge upturn in the last two years since Ilicali's takeover, City's income remains modest compared to other Championship clubs, and because of that, their ability to flex their financial desires in the transfer market has to be tempered somewhat, much to the Turkish businessman's ongoing frustrations.

That remains the case, and though the Tigers are not in danger of breaching FFP based on their plans for the remainder of the summer window, there will be no lavish spending on transfer fees that could see them placed at risk. Instead, it's understood City will try to be sensible and pragmatic in the window despite a perceived cash injection.

Put simply, if City were allowed to go out and spend big, there would be a desire to do that, but the feeling within the MKM Stadium is that they just cannot do that.

Players with the profile of Chris Willock at QPR prove that a sensible approach can still yield success, and they've shown with Philogene their capacity to buy low and sell high, something they could look to do again before the window shuts at the end of next month, but it will not be at expense of causing themselves an unnecessary problem.

I'm really interested to hear who on earth we've spent the money on. Our squad is threadbare and suddenly we are "walking the tightrope"

Genuinely if this was the Allams there would be riots

Acun out

I'm sure it is partly to stop clubs thinking we have a bottomless pit all of a sudden but also to temper the expectations of fans that might all of a sudden expect us to sign multiple players worth 5m+. It's unclear what the outlook for us is next year/ the year after in terms of generating future sales to fund more spending so it would be reckless to spend all this money in one go. I'm sure there will be some good players coming for decent fees but if we can be a bit more shrewd with free agents etc I'm all for it.

Baz posts what he’s told.

We’ve just got £35m in fees, teams will now add more money to what they’re demanding from us. Not everything is always as it seems in football many need to realise this especially when reading the Hull Daily Fail

To be honest I'm fine with it if it's put into training facilities.
Happened to go to Bishop Burton College today.
The facitlies have developed no end since I was last there several years ago.
On a day like this, it looked like a fantastic place for lads to train to be a footballer! In fact, made me wonder if it would be a better venue for the 1st team to move to as well! Looks like there's plenty of land to add to the existing facilities.

Actually Baz is saying its in the region of 40 with add ons

realistically we should be after making 40m and wanting to get promoted otherwise the bloke is talking out of his arse

The article isn't particularly clear or helpful imo. But, that said, I can't see where it says we don't have money to spend and it will pretty much all be frees and loans? It seems to just say the club will be sensible with spending, not spunking it away on a few big money signings.

Baz now saying that despite getting £35 million+ for Greaves and Philogene, the club is not likely to spend much money this summer and rely on free transfers and loans instead.

So there goes that theory that we had to wait until Greaves and Philogene had been sold before we could reinvest it.

Another couple of Philogenes at £5m a pop could be great news. The prospect of bringing another couple in with that level of profit on the player/s I'm sure is too big an incentive for Acun and Tan to ignore. I suspect that the prospect of spending north of that are unlikely, if at all an option.
I'm sure Acun and Tan are also attempting to temper the prospect to selling clubs that we are in now in a position to splash the cash big time.
That said having to recruit the number of new players we obviously need, is a big ask and one which increases the risk of going backwards unless they gel bl**dy fast.

I would but I never know when this lads pulling my leg. He’s certainly in a position to know but I can never tell. He did tell me about Vinagre a while before it came out last season.<laugh>

These players have been there and done it very recently is what I will say

I was looking at last year's thread last week and you did come out with Vinagre first and very clearly.

Also we all got super excited <laugh> except the lad from Portugal who said he'd be **** <laugh>

He was in Brid yesterday, enough to wipe the Smile off Anyone's face

Very harsh.
I was in Brid the other day. Sewerby & North side. Sun was shining and it was stunning.
I regularly go to the South side too, out to Wilsthorpe & Fraisthorpe. Beautiful. Cracking beach.
The centre let's it down .. but it's now slowly improving.
I've been all over England, and Brid can be as good as just about anywhere (bar the best in the South West and Northumberland). At least far better than so many of the grim resorts around the country.
Doesn't deserve a bad rap (albeit maybe done tongue in cheek).
