What if jaden breaks his leg in training tomorrow, it all goes to ****. Far fetched I know but it’s possibleWhy?
Plenty of clubs buy before they sell. We also have the natural headroom before any sales.

I’ve no idea Syd, I’m just clutching at a straw…any straw. We obviously aren't going to go out and sign 40m worth of players tomorrow mate. But you're basically saying that we'd need both Greaves and Philogene to go down with significant injuries tomorrow. You think the club is allowing them to be at risk of that? Thanks to FFP though we'd need to spend 200m on players on 5 year deals to offset the income of the pair in this year, so the risk is pretty minimal.

Do you think we’ll sign the same players, if the budget is £15m, £25m or £40m?
The deal we ultimately do will determine if we’re shopping at Waitrose or Sainsbury’s.
No doubt there’s some deals that we’re working on that won’t be significantly impacted by the sales, but key ones definitely will be.
I think there'll be a number of players signed this summer regardless of Philogene or Greaves going who we should be working on bringing in regardless of those two deals.
Especially if as M88 claims we knew Philogene and Greaves were going, those deals should be progressing regardless.
It could well be that the day we announce their sales, we announce 4-5 players signing who were waiting to sign for all the fees to line up, but somehow I doubt that's going to be the case.
We've already spent £1.5m on the new pitch and a fair whack sacking Rosie and his staff. I can't imagine Walter and his staff are too cheap either.I think there'll be a number of players signed this summer regardless of Philogene or Greaves going who we should be working on bringing in regardless of those two deals.

As I pointed out above, we also have 13m of allowable losses this season, as well as the fact we've just brought in 3m or so in fees for Tufan and Allsop. We can begin making moves.

£13m loss doesn't go that far when we don't get crazy money for commercial deals (although they are increasing), cheap tickets and a hefty wage bill.
The same pull under LRIt's better but it's still poor. We saved face last year because we signed 4 good young players but it glosses over the fact that we signed 15+ players and only 5/6 worked.
I don't see how we can have the same pull with the domestic loans as we did under LR. Why would you come to us instead of Boro, Coventry etc? And considering that counted for most of our better signings, we're in a tough place.
Tim is meant to be very good with youngsters but domestically it's going to take time to prove that.

The pitch is not under FFP and Rosenior was sacked in the previous financial year.
13m loss goes a bit further than hiring a coach from Germany and dismissing a previous manager.
The suggestion seems to be that if we weren't selling Philogene and Greaves we'd have no money at all to spend which is utterly daft.
I think people - as Geo said - are trying to come up with reasons to justify why we haven't signed anyone and that's perfectly understandable, but sometimes it is ok to just say "We have a lot of signings to make in order to be competitive".
As Baz said, if the season started tomorrow we'd be battling relegation. Luckily it doesn't, but let's see where we are in a few weeks.
This is the ultimate point. It really is too early to be worrying. UTT.

You can be difficult if you want, I was just pointing out that it's hard to create a team ready to challenge without selling players, especially as we don't generate much from ticket sales or commercial deals. A £13m loss doesn't go far, especially with our income as a football club. The pitch is not under FFP and Rosenior was sacked in the previous financial year.

We really wouldn't have a lot, no. It would be a lot less than we had last season. The pitch is not under FFP and Rosenior was sacked in the previous financial year.

I seem to recall rumours that Clough tried hard to prize away Waggy & C.C. as a package when he was at Derby ?If I was in. position like Ipswich I'd definitely be trying to do bundle deals. When you hear of great CB 'pairings'.. or 'strike partnerships' I'd want to carry that on as the ones they are replaced with dont meet the partnership strike partnership criteria. Imagine if Waggy and Chillo had been sold as a pair to some First Division team back in the day.
I agree. We could sign a couple of players at £2-3 million a piece in transfer fees this afternoon and it wouldn’t be an issue. This whole ‘we have to wait until Greaves and Philogene officially leave’ is disingenuous. Coventry were prepared to spend £5 million on Stamenić as Sheaf’s replacement before even selling Sheaf and would’ve signed him if the player didn’t decide to go to Forest instead.
