Good business with two other announcements imminent as well. Spot on. Absolutely need to focus on some attacking quality next, and sharpish.
How of that was Jacobs and maybe Macca (not helping him). Both won't be anywhere near the starting 11 I would hope.
Said Vern/Brady telling me City wouldn't offer sufficient coin for Hughes. Abridged version, shurrup daft ****. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I always thought our back 4 were hung out to dry by the midfield in front of them. This season we are prioritising midfielders who are dynamic and provide defensive output, Rosie clearly didn’t feel that was a priority
You'll be in the 'if he plays tomorrow we'll get beat 6-0, he'll score 2 own goals and get sent off camp then...
Not just Rosie. Ever since Smallwood left we've gone for less physical, more technical, less dynamic DM's in there. So its basically the first time under the new ownership.
It really feels that somehow the club manage to completely miss the window of excitement with our signings and then it just becomes more of a slight relief when you do get the announcement.
And I feel they've done it in the wrong order.. Should have been Burstow then Zambrano then Hughes an hour after each other.
All well and good if you can get selling clubs to co-ordinate their announcements with our preferred schedule. Sometimes it's as simple as that.
That's true. The selling club announce it the same time. It's like all 92 clubs have a discord call with each other to know when to do it
Maybe there are just some i's to be dotted and t's to be crossed... Also, maybe the delay in transfer activity might have been the complexities of the Hughes deal, the work involved and managing the finances in case it went pear shaped. Hopefully now the marquee signing of the summer is done (if you will) others will follow quicker..
I think the selling club usually announces it after the buying club, after all how can they know when we're ready to announce? We need to get interview, photo shoot, etc. done. I assume there's just a message to the other club to let them know when we're about to announce it.
In fairness, while our business has been slow, it has been fantastic. We haven’t had the glitz and glamour of Philogene, Carvalho and Zaroury, but what we have had is really well thought out players with further potential growth in areas we need. Christie had lost his legs, Drameh brings not only competition for Coyle but a likely upgrade once he’s up and running. With the Greaves money we have bought a younger Greaves with as much (if not more) potential to make it big in the Premier League. Zambrano is finally our Smallwood replacement, who, if for not taking an allergy medicine after eating shellfish, would be likely lining up in a Premier League Squad - probably not Man Utd, but I’m sure Brighton or Luton would have followed up with their interest. I feel Acun is lying in waiting for the dying embers of the transfer window before he pulls out the razzmatazz and brings in a stonker of a striker. This, tied in with some more excellent loans will see an unrecognisable squad to the one we started the season with. Im looking forward to seeing what Walter can do with this squad. Hopefully starting with his first win on Saturday!
All three were registered yesterday though, but who knows what other admin goes along with it I suppose..
Forgot to even mention Millar who I believe has the potential to deliver Philogene-like levels of assists and goals this season.
Good post... I agree fully with all of this... some/we have been critical on here of the somewhat scattergun signings since Acun took over. This season, especially recognising the constraints of FFP, they have been far more diligent in knowing who might work in the Championship, who they could sign on a permanent basis so that next season they can be even more selective..
