20 champ appearances and a full league 1 season. Maybe seems a bit closer than the majority of development signings, you'd think he'd bypass the 21's
Development signing? He’s an England U20 and will cost us probably £5m.
I’m meaning more he’s one to develop value terms. He absolutely starts, probably the wrong choice of words. Big fan, actually think he’s better overall than Ronnie Edwards.

Succession planning, definitely. Whether he starts ahead of Jones and and Macca remains to be seen.

Assume if he signs then Smith goes on another loan?

I just had a quick look at Wigan, Stephen Humphreys still doesn't have a club after being released which is a bit odd as he's had two decent seasons in the SPL and League One. I'd have him here for a year.

Hughes actually played left centre back all season and captained wigan.

you’d think so he’s the one they need to push, Ashbee has much more time on his side

He would probably go ahead of either of them, it'll depend on which of Jones and Macca have impressed TW more. Smith I suspect will hang around the first team, it'll be Ashbee that'll go out on loan.

We also have to sort out Alfie Taylor after he lost a year of his career in Ireland.

Makes you wonder how any of the 21's progress doesn't it?

Obviously if he does well for them he'll be invited to train with the 1st team.
No, not really.
And yes, that's true.
But that doesn't make it anywhere near ideal. I know it's been done to near death, and I'd say BB is a lovely set up for the academy, .....but .... Fleetwoods set up makes us look non league.

Theres is impressive, but evidently not the be all and end all.

Ashbee at 17 doesn’t need to, Smith looked like he was the one that was 17 last night. He needs to be playing every week. Grimsby I’m sure would be ecstatic to have him back. Would rather him go down a level and play every week again then sit in reserve all season

Hughes is the type of signing I think we should be aiming for. Young, English and bags of potential. With FFP constraints developing talent and selling on is the best way to advance in this league. Brentford probably did it best signing and selling Watkins, Benraham, Konsa, Maupay, Mepham all for big money before promotion
