Aston Villa have announced that Cameron Archer is free to find another club.

I wonder if we'll go in for him? The price quoted is £15m, so not at that level, but if there was negotiation on the Philogene deal I could see it happening. Villa really need to sell as they're dangerously close to breaching PSR apparently.

I had a thought about him. He didn't really cut it in the PL so surely would be willing to drop down a level. Not as if the clubs coming up need a striker (especially now that Ipswich have Delap).

Also curious to see how that Leeds number was arrived at.

Players we've lost (appearances last season):
Carvalho (20)
Morton (41)
Delap (32)

Zaroury (12)
Ohio (8)
Traore (25)
Christie (28)
Connolly (30)
Docherty (17)
Greaves (43)
Tufan (40)

Allsop (38)
Sharp (13)
= 348 appearances (starts + off the bench) across all competitions

176 appearances from players I'd consider 'core' and that's excluding Allsop who whilst clearly being our first choice, a lot of people were happy to see leave, and ignoring Connolly who was almost our top scorer. Also ignoring Traore who made a significant contribution in the first half of the season.

Players Leeds have lost (appearances last season):
Anthony (38)
Roberts (15)
Ayling (16)
Poveda (10)
Shackleton (15)
Gray (52)
Klaesson (2)
Cresswell (7)
= 155 appearances across all competitions

Also only 8 players departed for Leeds who made appearances last season, so not sure where the number provided above comes from.

So the entire 'experience' lost by Leeds is significantly less than a very conservative 'core' lost by us.

Let's make no mistake, we're in pretty much the weakest position in the league in terms of experience and personnel lost, and have made 1 signing (a player who was here last season so is net neutral). There's now 3 weeks to go. Are we going to be sat here in a week saying "Calm down there's still 2 weeks to go" or will we get a move on?

Jesus. When did maths ever win a football argument.

Clearly the others didn't make appearances for Leeds because they were on loan elsewhere, they had a load of players they couldn't afford to keep at the club after relegation, so they went out to other clubs. They'd have been back this season if they'd gone up, but they didn't, so they've had to lose them permanently.

If they were on loan elsewhere last season then how does their departure impact their squad for the coming season? They were already not playing for them.. I understand what you're saying, that they're not just random youth players, but clearly it suggests that their squad was fine without them last season and will be fine again in the coming season. If anything it means they now have even more money to spend and use on players who will be there.

That'd be like us moaning about Woods being sold even though he didn't make an appearance for us last season. <laugh>

Reactions: Gone For A Walk
If you had bothered to check... of the 13 that left Hull they included.. TOM NIXON, VAUGHAN COVIL, DAVID ROBSON, BILLY SHARP, OLIVER GREEN, RYAN WOODS.

Jaden Philogene is at Bodymoor Heath this morning and will now undergo/complete a medical ahead of his move to [HASHTAG]#AVFC[/HASHTAG], expected to be finalised today.

Yeah he’s gone.

Spoke to my pal at the club briefly today and he said the RB signing should be announced imminently and at least one, possibly two new faces in time for the final friendly. Guessing the RB announcement is to soften the blow of Jaden going.

Sincere Hall, Xavier Simons and Stan Ashbee have really impressed.

What about coyle junior?

He didn’t say, but he only played half of one half. No doubt Tim will get a better look in the next friendly.

I said this last season, but the club have very high hopes for the current U21s:

Hall, Cartwright, TLT, Ashbee, Coyle, TSF, Smith, Vaughan and Sandat are all seen as players that can break through at some point.

Compare that to the crop that just left, it’s looking promising for sure.

They're losing some of the best players on their books, as they can no longer afford their wages, that is nothing like us losing Woods. <doh>

As I said I understand what you're saying but you're somewhat missing the point.

The discussion was around us needing to replace players who played for us last season, and we were being compared to Leeds losing a similar number of players, as if they also needed to replace them.

You think I listed out every single name and their appearances but didn't 'bother to check'?

If your 13 includes Nixon, Covil etc. who I excluded, then you're ignoring the loanees returning to their clubs.

?? Do you mean the next friendly? Surely we're aiming to have more than 3 in before the season starts?

Thought it said a lot that Cartwright got the nod ahead of TLT and Ingram. I'm comfortable with a handful of youth getting squad opportunities this season as there are some promising players
