We seem to say that about quite a few players.
They then go on to do OK elsewhere.
Is it them or us????
They rarely do well at Championship level unless we get good money for them. If you look at the ex players thread most mentioned are scoring in lower divisions having not succeeded in the Championship.
I'm struggling to think of any doing well at a higher level in recent years. Have I forgotten any?
Herr Glatsel??? Although it must be said Bundesliga 2 may be below Championship?
Only really Bobby Reid in recent years as far as I am aware.

Zahore is the only player in recent memory that we've really done well on... Plucked from pretty much obscurity and sold for a healthy profit at just the right time.Good one.

Mutch was a little different I guess as we were able to take advantage of Brums poor financial situation at the time. Had they not been in dire straights (and wanting money for anything they could flog as opposed to Mr Knopfler) then he'd probably have stayed there or been sold for a decent fee.

The inability to pay fees for new players might suit Tan at the moment, and he'd be in no hurry from a financial point of view to get it lifted.
No argument with any of the above although there are some good players to be picked up from lower divisions. Ng and Wintle as examples plus we are still to see the best of Collins and Adams.
