That would look good to me. Albeit getting greedy and adding Lavia to Svanburg for 2 CMs. Unless the CB is someone who covers at right back. But it seems increasingly unlikely that there will be many CBs who can play the “modern full back” role - the much more attacking one

edit: My midfield comments should be refined to suggest those 2 if either:
- Diallo is moving on; or
- Svanberg is being converted to a 10 in our system like Armstrong

I’d only expect us to have 4 players for the “number 6” roles but would like someone who can stand in for and eventually replace Romeu. It was the only gap (at least in term of numbers) in the squad last season. And Svanberg isn’t it

It's interesting that we plan to basically build a brand new team!

I would say that Bar JWP and KWP, salisu and Tino seem pretty safe too.. everyone has a price on there heads.

It’s team / squad

One of those strikers would be for the squad and pushing for the team but we kind of need 4 for a system that uses 2.

In my view a right back, centre midfielder, striker and probably one of the 10s wouldn’t be for the immediate 11.

For the first team we needed a goalkeeper, CB, 10 and striker as either upgrades or replacements. The striker is the replacement for someone already gone and arguably is the goalkeeper

10 new players doesn’t mean 10 new first teamers
 
Apparently the word now is that Svanberg has never been on our list of targets. Which given our requirements (Romeu type midfielder and at least one attacking number 10 type) actually makes some degree of sense

It never made a lot of sense unless we were changing formation.

Well I can understand that being more viable than a system change for Ralph, I do wonder what Ralph plans to do with Romeu as he isn't getting any younger. And he cant handle a full season.

I’d suggest that Romeu never really relied on pace for his game so we shall see. He only has one year left and is one of the higher earners. So I guess things will become apparent in the next few months or so

Thing with Romeu getting older is that I am worried that some of his yellows may become double yellows - ie reds. He has this knack of getting a yellow early on and managing to last the rest of the game with tough tackles. As he gets older, the slight delay that will come may mean a second yellow if you see what I mean.

I can see why we didn’t. He’s pretty expensive. It’s £100k+ p/w and they’re only getting him on loan right? United were always rumoured to be asking ludicrous money to loan their players last year too. I’m sure they are paying an awful lot for a year of Dean Henderson. I don’t think he’s THAT good?

wow, didn’t see the details. That’s a lot.

I remember him being immense when he was on loan, but it’s been so long since I’ve seen him play that I have no idea what he should be worth <laugh>

Would be good business if we can get €15m+ for him. He has had good spells for us but its clear he isnt cut out for the premier league. Plus signing for £5m and selling after a few years for around €15m is our business model all over.

Just hope we replace him with someone relatively experienced.
