From what I’ve seen of Williams when playing for Wales (he plays left back there for us) is that whilst he is a bit raw, he is one hell of a talent who usually picks the right option going forward and has a very decent cross on him too. He would, in my opinion, be an immediate and significant upgrade on Perraud and I would be very happy if we were in for him…even at £20million I think we would make a good profit on a resale

Not at £20Million. I also read a seperate article somewhere yesterday, That Pool wanted between 12/15. Perhaps if they were happy with 10/12 and then 5/3 in add ons. then i think it would be okay.

At such a young age, even if he turns out to be average, we will still recoup most of what we pay for him. If we sold Perraud tomorrow, we’d manage to get back the £12m we paid.

These days paying £15m is relatively low risk. And we would only need to pay the add-ons if he turns out to be a solid first teamer.

Not a regular on here and a Welshman's wishlist as much as anything but interested to hear what fellow Saints fans would think of us making a move for:

Joe Rodon - an absolute collosus for Wales and getting no game time at Spurs. Would seem a great fit.
Ethan Ampadu - Will be Wales' record cap holder and already plays like a seasoned pro. Can play in a holding midfield role or in a back 3. Great passing range and attitude. Fan favourite for Wales.

Whilst I'd love us to fork out for Brenan Johnson and Neco Williams and others will be giving Bale, Ramsey and Allen a payday - these are two players who would fit the mould, compete for a place immediately and who's stock might well rise during the World cup. Interested to hear your thoughts.

They’ve even said Chelsea may push for closer to £40m. I think he’s overvalued at £30m to be honest.
So do I . He had flashes where he looked like he might be a 30m player. But not throughout the year. He didn’t have the right attitude to get into the team at the start (apparently entitlement) and then didn’t make the team towards the end of the season

People seem very keen to blame the rest of the team (chance creation) or Hassenhuttl for this. But he’s got to take on at least some it himself.

I guess it is very easy for people determined to bash the club and/or manager to side with the person who is not a full time member of the squad

I have seen chatterings that he is “not impressed by Hassenhuttl”. He is a 20 year old with two pro seasons who scored 6 league goals. He needs to wind his neck in. He is not Kylian Mbappe or a young Rooney or Ronaldo.

If we are spending upwards of 30m on a player he will need to show more than flashes and will also need to be a bit more self aware. And it seems like that number might be the opening anyway and not the final one

But maybe what constitutes a 30m player has changed drastically. But I am not sure it really has

Would I like us to sign him? For the right price - yes. 30m is probably the absolute max especially if buy backs and sell ons are involved.

You're paying more for his age and potential I guess. £30m on the face of it is a lot for a handful of great performances and 6 goals, but if he continues to develop and lives up to his potential then that could seem a bargain in a few years. No idea how likely it was for us to buy him in the first place but if we are talking starting price at £30m then we'll be well priced out.

We can’t afford to pay 30m for someone on the cache they might develop. Because if they don’t not only will we not get the 30m back we would be lucky to get half

Take a look at some of the others we have signed on that theory and got less than half back. We have been damaged heavily by trying this with 15m players. Let alone 30m players. There is already unease about Bazunu for example. And his initial fee is 12m. Not 30m

I’d expect if the fee was 25m we’d potentially still be trying. But who knows.

He went heavily off the boil. I know the rest of the team did but he went even more off the boil to the extent where he was completely dropped. When he was off form he really didn’t offer much at all.

Perhaps he will be a lot better in a better team with far less pressure. You see it all the time. Mane was very inconsistent for us but is consistently a world beater at Liverpool. Sure be improved but he was pretty much excelling from day one there. Similar to how Ramsdale got a lot of stick (compared to Henderson) as the goalkeeper for Sheffield United. Looks a different player at arsenal

Yeah but if £30m is what you have to pay for someone who has shown some glimpses and has potential then what would you have to pay for someone who has proven it?

We are going to have to take a chance on somebody as we can’t afford to buy that “proven” PL player. Just have to hope that they work out. We’ve been terrible at that in recent times when it comes to forwards, although off the top of my head I can’t recall any strikers around the £15m mark who have done much better than Adams in recent years, so maybe there just aren’t any good options at that price point in the striker position

I wonder if this is instead of Richards or as well as ? Might have been on the same list from the scouts in Germany

If it is both surely we need to be moving some people on?
