Along with the Suarez rumours and the massive wages he and all the new signing will be on I think we can confirm any charade of FFP is dead now. That or they are going for the champions league gamble and relying on the lack of punishment

Looks like we might be being priced out of this league. Back to the days of scrapping for 17th.

This level of investment from them as well as others will surely be a wake up call to the new owners. Perhaps this is why some of the messaging seems to have changed a bit regarding summer activity

We won’t survive much longer if we continue with a zero net spend on transfers, however Villa spent £100 million last summer and finished 1 place above us after taking our best player. If this season is the same for them, Gerrard will get sacked and they’ll have to cut back on spending you’d imagine?

On paper it is difficult to see how it would be the same as they seem to have added real quality throughout the spin (albeit Coutinho was already there so is half standing still). I guess Suarez (if he joins) could have lost a step and/or not gel with the existing players. Carlos is an unknown and I guess isn’t a guaranteed success

If their hit rate is the same as last summer then it won’t work out. Loads waxed lyrical about Bailey and he did nothing. I think I would have been upset if we have spent anything close to that amount on Buendia given the return on that. And if he had worked out like they wanted they wouldn’t have gone for Coutinho. Etc

There are some very very early moves going on though it isn’t even June. This doesn’t usually happen does it ?

Following this particular rabbit hole:

- Some random City fan posts it on Twitter. No source.

- The Polish paper Fakt publishes an "oh hey Polish players seem to end up in Southampton" article. It throws out the exact same details as the random City fan (five-year deal, on loan for a year...somewhere), but phrases it as "Mateusz Lis will go to Southampton?":

- A Saints news aggregator then uncritically picks it up and reports it as a done deal, citing Fakt.

And thus does the bullshit to rumour to fact cycle complete.

I'll throw out a name I haven't seen elsewhere: Manor Solomon of Shakhtar. Was expected to transfer to Fulham, but that has apparently fallen through. Very much a flair player, has performed well in Champions League, and would be fairly cheap because he's in the final year of his deal (and because of the situation in Ukraine, sadly).

Pretty sure that you can only register 2 players on loan at any one time whether British or foreign.
The rule is changing next season where clubs can only loan out a maximum of 6 players at any one time. This will hopefully be an advantage to clubs like Southampton as it will stop the clubs like Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool etc from stock piling young players or having to many full time professionals on their payroll.

So you’d get players like Delap etc at City, possibly looking to go to other clubs to get game time.

He one of those anonymous players that even though I have seen him play I honestly couldnt tell you a thing about him. My concern is that we have some of those already and need something different.

He's like Jermaine Jenas. I remember being flabbergasted when he made an England world cup squad. It was obvious he would never play as he didn't have a clear specialist role. He was a goalscoring midfielder, a top playmaker, a lung busting box to boxer or a hard tackling destroyer. He was kind of a decent all rounder. Never going to make it off the bench when a game needed changing and not a good enough all rounder to start. Winks seems very much the same to me.
