Another who we wanted off the books for his high earnings. Now hes staying he needs to be back in for us. Phillips has already cost us points v Barnsley and the wurzels. Im not completely knocking Phillips. Decent keeper but Smithies on form is by far the better in my opinion
Come on Hilts. He's been awful for 2 years. Could be he was poorly managed, lacks confidence, unfit, whatever, but he has disappointed at most opportunities since we were in the Prem. We needed his wages off the books because he wasn't earning them. There are a few others like that who are still with us. Whatever he had 2/3 years ago has disappeared. Hope he can find it again at Preston where he will be managed by a coach he had at Norwich.
City are fortunate to have 2 very good keepers. Smithies also made some howlers last season. But overall he’s a better keeper than Phillips.
I see that Tomlin and Vassell are both injured again with no date for when they might return. What is it with these two? Costing us a fortune to sit in the treatment room. Are the back room staff not doing their job or are they just a waste of space? Sorry I’ve had enough of them and the sooner we offload them and their salaries the better.
Have to either buy them out - at an obvious cost - or let their contracts run down to next summer. Vassell won't be on much but Tomlin high teens per week.
We've had some white elephants over the last few years. Our transfer committee DOES NOT WORK. Its the problem with no long term strategy. As we often discuss we keep changing direction making players we sign no longer needed. If indeed theyre good enough in the first place and they can stay fit for more than a couple weeks.
Tomlin on £19K a week and Vassell on exactly half that at £9.5K per week. Unfortunately in financial terms City have a duty of care to both players in the same way as Bennett who was actually out of contract. They were all injured in the course of their "employment", and as such are entitled to complete their rehabs at the club's expense. As long as they stick to their obligations in making their best efforts to regain fitness, they'll be at the club until next summer when both their contracts are up. Hardly ideal, but contracts are entered into and work both ways.
U23 Match Report | Sheffield Wednesday 0-3 Cardiff City | Cardiff (cardiffcityfc.co.uk) A good result for the Under 23's today away at Sheffield Wednesday. Hopefully a few of these youngsters will be knocking on the door and getting some first team action before next summer.
And with their feet!!!! An excellent result. More excellent prospects coming from within the club. Clearly we are doing some things right. That team didn't include Sang, Colwill, Bagan and Harris.
Young bucks are more evident. 3 accademy graduates starting with another 2 off the bench, so 5 getting game time. Who'd have thought it? Hoping they kick on. Also that it means we can focus on one or two bits of quality during transfer windows going forward, forget about a scatter gun approach to signings . Also forget about some of the sick notes. A long season and I expect some inconsistency from the youngsters, but ever hopeful. So, defence and attack looking promising, just the troublesome midfield to sort.
Is this a case of wanting to play for Nathan Jones or NOT wanting to play for MM. Will out style limit out signings? https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...rmer-tottenham-starlet-elliot-thorpe-21652753
As I pulled into a car park in Marlow this afternoon, the wife said she caught a glimpse of our new striker. Apparently he's 6' 9" and called Max Headroom.
