Always felt there should have been a cap on loans. Reducing to 3 or 4 would be reasonable in my view & would help player development & clubs outside of top 6 ….. so that’s a non starter then.
Ps. Used to be unlimited & now 8! Ffs, who needs / benefits from 8 loanees!?

My understanding is it is 8 allowed to go OUT from one club, rather than a team being allowed to bring in 8.
The cap on domestic loans for a PL teams is 2, not sure on overseas loans. Think there is a cap on how many you are allowed in a match day squad though, maybe 5 out of the match day 18

That’s actually my point. Big club buys all talent & can afford to loan out, 8+ That stunts the growth / development of mid sized clubs who might have bought those players. Yep, I know you can argue about big club developing those players but they definitely steer where they go. IMHO it’s just fundamentally wrong & should be limited to a “reasonable” number, which ain’t 8

I don’t know how the 8 are made up. For example we’ve loaned out Ferry, Ramsay and N’Lundulu off the top of my head, I assume they would count as part of the 8. There may be some others I’m forgetting as well. Would they count? I assume so

Yes, good point & I suppose it’s replicated down the tree but I don’t agree it’s right. Limited clubs to what they can afford, develop & provide opportunities. By limiting, it becomes self policing as clubs can’t just off load & there’s also more of a long term awareness from the player about who will be best for their development rather than just big bucks being the draw.
Thing is loans could be disruptive. Say we loan 2 players from Liverpool , they play really well and are integrated into the team- there’s a ‘cannot play against parent club’ rule so we end up fielding a weakened team,
I am wondering whether the younger recruits we have brought in have been intended more to address the problems with the academy than the first team in the short term. It is brilliant that they have been acquired because the issues within the club need to be addressed from the base upwards.
There was an article about 7-8 years ago in WSC which projected there being problems with academies as soon as the clubs voted out the older system where players were brought through the smaller teams. Now we have a system where the larger clubs have a bloated academy.

£15m-£20m for Vestergaard, £5m for Obafemi and save on Long's wages with a loan. Add in anything left over from Ings and that is around £30m + 1 loan spot for CB, CM and hopefully LB.
Who knows, Could get a surprise Bid for Elyounussi too.. That would be interesting.
