He coined it first, but I've heard Dave (club/bar owner) use it several times, referring to Arthur's never to be seen missus. Probably a cockney expression originally ?
Similar to Rumpole's "She who must be obeyed", somewhat affectionate/slightly derogative ? Although Hilda did appear in most episodes of the brilliant series "Rumpole of the Bailey"

Elder isn’t fully fit still, so could be. Solid experienced player and McCann said he would look at free transfers.

surely there is a free agent list out there, so players not earning a penny!
Offer then a silly £5k - £10k per month but if they force there way into the team that doubles. then if they play more then 50% of the games between now and the end of the season and get us promoted they get a £3m - £5m bonus
surely if these players are good enough and believe in themselves they will jump at the chance and hope to get a good contract at the end of the season with us or have put themselves in the shop window.
