So.. I think we already knew it from listening to McCann's first press conference.. but today Burke confirms the aim this season is top 6.. Im not saying its a bad idea to have targets but they have to be realistic. McCann's clearly an ambitious manager and with our current team + additions, top 6 is certainly possible.. but what happens when we lose Grosicki, Bowen and possibly more and replace them with unproved kids. Not trying to be negative at all but we know how these recent transfer windows go under the Allams, its never good and leaves us and the manager tearing our hair out with frustration.
I'm reasonably confident that our XI at least is reasonably consistent with last season. If we bring in Bowler and Tafazolli that gives us, what, 19 senior players in the squad? I'd want to see another 2-3 through the doors if/when Bowen and Grosicki go, and senior pros not unproven kids. Then I'd feel reasonably confident. Our issue last season was not gelling early enough, which I think won't be as much an issue this season.
Aston Villa agree £15m deal for Man City midfielder Douglas Luiz. They've also just announced the signing of Brentford and England Under-21 defender Ezri Konsa in a £12m deal.
They're utter idiots. If only there was a recent example of a team overspending and then being relegated instantly..
The other Al Ahly just drew with with Newport yesterday. Don't know, but just have this nagging feeling that that game isn't going ahead now.
I don't know what you're worried about. I've just checked the table and we're sitting pretty in 11th, only 0 points behind the top two with an identical goal difference. Although I know we're only 0 points above the bottom three, with 46 games to play there's a chance we can pull away.
AFC Hull City would get us up. Bournemouth have tried this trick in the Premier League but weirdly it's gained them precisely 0 places.
