Virtually no chance of this. You'd have to be from a different planet to miss the amount that his name gets flung around on the OS by the club. Like someone said the other day, he's the golden boy of the team and embodies "The Southampton Way." I think he'd have to turn out pretty average for us to sell him. He's regularly captaining his age group England teams, so there is something there, I think he just needs to fill out a bit in terms of physique.

Good point and he's just been voted the best academy player this year.

Agree 100%. He will be the team captain within the next 10 years. You have to remember that lads develop at different rates. Luke Shaw is obviously well ahead of JWP in terms of physique despite being younger. I would think the reason for his limited appearances last season are as much to do with looking after him and bringing him on slowly than any lack of ability.

He didn't seem pissed off (or trying to hide it) at the end of year awards. So i'm calling bullshit.

My only niggling doubt though in terms of JWP is where he fits into our system. He's primarily a playmaker, I gather, he likes to pass the ball. However, I don't think he's defensive minded enough to play the DM role fulfilled by Cork & Morgan. Neither does he seem attacking enough to play Gaston's CAM role, and I don't think he'll ever be as good as Gaston anyway. Of course, I only have limited experience of him, and I could be completely wrong.

The way I see him though is as a young Steven Davis, but better. Similar to Davis, I reckon JWP's place in the team will be to play in Gaston's role, but deeper, when we are away from home or playing better teams. This doesn't constitute being a first team regular though, and I don't know if he'll be satisfied with this. Also, as we improve, there will be less teams who are better then us, and perhaps alongside this we'll see more of Gaston playing the CAM role and less of Davis/JWP.

When does this blasted transfer window open..? I thought it was July 1st, but it appears Liverpool have bought a player [Aspas] who is undergoing a medical today. What are they doing..? I can only guess that they are completing all the preliminaries, but the player and money exchange doesn't take place until July. I think its ridiculous and strains the rules of the transfer window. Mind you, I don't think there should be a transfer window anyway.

JWP can run all day and a good passer, so I don't understand why someone would say they don't know where he'll fit in to our high pressing system. He's perfect for it and owhen he learns how to read interceptions like Morgan, well have two versions which will be brilliant.

I don't think even Gaston quite fits into "Gaston's role". One little issue we had last season was that Gaston looked awkward there, while the far less talented Davis fit right in. I think the future of that midfield three involves Ward-Prowse as the most advanced one.

Good point we will definitely want to keep him around. However if jwp isn't getting first team football in a few years he will probably look to move which would be fair enough for both parties despite our goal of 50% youth.

I think jwp has everything mentally but not enough physically or technically. Physically he will improve quite a bit but his youth is no guarantee that he will improve technically or physically enough to be playing european football. I have absolutely no doubt that he will be a dedicated professional through out his career which should help him graft out a career in the premier league if he can't break into our team. Really he needs to be better than cork within the next year to have any hope with us, a huge ask imo.

That interview is old ... the interview was conducted in April/May time.

Can't see him getting a loan move though, the club seem to want to develop them here, so can see him pushing on a bit next year. Very talented player, will go a long way.

No he didn't IMO. We were far too slow when attacking with him in the advanced role.

Early last season, Morgan was quoted that he loved playing in the same team as JWP. He said it enabled him to sit back a bit and let James do all the running. JWP was doing Ok but when Cork came back he showed that bit more experience and the results started to turn our way. it was a piviotal point in our season. Long term though, I think JWP will prove to be the better player.

Yeah, if he is to become a first team regular anywhere it probably would be there, as a slightly deeper CAM, more similar to Davis than Gaston. I do feel though that Gaston has more to contribute as a CAM than playing out wide

Great attitude, but not enough ability at the moment, I would play cork, morgan, davis, lallana, ramirez, puncheon and possibly Lambert in cm before jwp, of course most of those are better off further up the field so JWP would see plenty of games if we don't bring anyone in but we will bring in at least 3 attackers which will all be streets ahead of him.

He's better off sitting on the bench for another few years and seeing if he can fight his way into our team than going out on loan. Unfortunately I feel that like pretty much everyone in our squad our future development will be too quick, and Jwp will be sold to accommodate better players.

Your attitude is shocking on the other hand. You would actually play Lambert in CM about JWP? He is only 18. He will be an integral part of the team. He does a job slightly more offensive minded than Corky - if he doesn't go out on loan, then I welcome James playing some games against teams who will drop deep, we need players with his composure and vision to unlock defenses, we missed a player like this last season, Prowsey could well be that player.
