He has a proximity device attached...alarm goes off in Nicola's office if he goes within 10 miles of Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge. That's how we know he went to a Europa league match at Chelsea (even though he had a woolly hat pulled down over his head).

Graeme Bailey (Sky Sports) just tweeted that according to France Football Saints are interested in Stuttgart midfielder Ibrahima Traore, along with West Ham and Aston Villa.

I don't like the idea of being linked to another young LB, makes me worried about Shaw. Would many 23yo players want to understudy a 17yo?

Sure this has probably already been discussed but I'm not going through the backlog so apologies in advance...

Surely Luke won't go to united. He is unlikely to usurp evra, Leighton baines would walk straight into the 1st team and they still have buttner. Can't see where he would fit in. Unless people think we would get him loaned straight back to us for next season to get 1st team football but can't see him getting much 1st team at united, same goes for Chelsea.

From the Echo. However, Ramirez insists he is happy where he is. “There is a lot of talk about the transfer market but I think I'll stay at Southampton,” Ramirez told the Italian media. “I want to repay the trust of the club. I'm happy in England and I have always dreamed of playing in the Premier League. “There has been talk in the past of interest from Fiorentina and they are a club that I like. But Southampton count on me a lot.” As reported in last Friday’s Daily Echo, Saints have been linked with a potential move for a second Uruguayan to join Ramirez at St Mary’s – Gonzalo Bueno. “I know him well,” said Ramirez. “He has great quality and he would give us a helping hand if he came to Southampton.”

The bbc reporting that JWP is not happy sitting on the bench, loan move?

Great attitude, but not enough ability at the moment, I would play cork, morgan, davis, lallana, ramirez, puncheon and possibly Lambert in cm before jwp, of course most of those are better off further up the field so JWP would see plenty of games if we don't bring anyone in but we will bring in at least 3 attackers which will all be streets ahead of him.

He's better off sitting on the bench for another few years and seeing if he can fight his way into our team than going out on loan. Unfortunately I feel that like pretty much everyone in our squad our future development will be too quick, and Jwp will be sold to accommodate better players.

I would be worried if he was satisfied with sitting on the bench. He shouldn't compare himself with Luke because JWP plays in a more competitive position. It's hard to judge him when he's played rarely. How good is he? Is he another player that would have done better if we'd stayed in the Championship. He now has to compete with players we have and with others we might sign. He's still only 18 (love the way he described himself as not a young pup anymore:)). If MP intends to use him rarely, then a loan may be better for him, but the team had better be carefully selected.

I think he's got great potential and he's clearly got a good attitude. You need competitive first-team experience to develop properly, and I'd be more than happy for him to build up some game time at a Championship team, who like to play the right way. Ideally he'd play first team for us, but obviously you can only start 11 players, and he's nowhere near Cork or Schneiderlin's level yet.

Virtually no chance of this. You'd have to be from a different planet to miss the amount that his name gets flung around on the OS by the club. Like someone said the other day, he's the golden boy of the team and embodies "The Southampton Way." I think he'd have to turn out pretty average for us to sell him. He's regularly captaining his age group England teams, so there is something there, I think he just needs to fill out a bit in terms of physique.

The question is (and that's hard to answer for a youngster) will he ever be as good as them? He could be a player who peaks at a later age, but he needs game time to gain experience. Another season with us and see how it goes or a loan out...depends what Mauricio thinks.
