I remember reading somewhere that it was on person in particular that vetoed our signing of Suarez for 20m I believe, does anyone remember who that was as I think they need a slap.

That is all.

Ultimately Spurs made failed offers for others strikers, including Fernando Llorente and Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi. "We kept looking at [Suárez] but people thought he couldn't play up as a striker," said Redknapp.

"They said he's like Rafa [van der Vaart] and you can't have him and Rafa or you'd have two players who want to drop deep, so that was the problem. We were looking for someone to play up front with Rafa. People said he couldn't do that, he drifts and comes deep. But he played up front on his own the other night [against Fulham on Monday] and he was fantastic."

You can add that to Remy & Carzola, the list of players Redknapp wanted to sign but other people put a stop too, instead we have gone with the safe option and invested money in players like Dempsey & Soldado, I say safe as i'm sure someone thought they where safe bets!

He was insane and a little bird told me he lives in Luxury nutters tax dodge geriatric Asylum in the Bahamas.

On a brighter note , if we had signed him , we would have sold him by now.

Corzola was obviously quality though?
Just like Michu - top scoring midfielder in the league?
And Newcastle got ba on a free.

I just don't understand who is in charge of transfers as so many good players pass us by.

I can't even begin to go into how many times I've heard the phrase "there is no strikers better than we have that we can afford" - theres a boatload out there better than Defoe for sure.

Harry's quote sounds quite typical though "They said this", "they said that". He never would admit when he ****ed up. "Oh people said play 4-4-2, so I did and we lost so I was right". - no you just played a ****e team and have no technical ability to teach the players new formations Harry.

The point was that Redknapp wanted to sign Carzola, Michu & Remy and if he had his way he would have taken a gamble on Suarez. This was one of the reasons why him and Levy always clashed on transfers as after Redknapp purchased (and discarded) players fairly qucikly, there was a lack of trust from Levy that the players Redknapp wanted wouldn't be long term purchases and wasn't prepared to take the gamble.

However that was poor judgement from Levy as Redknapp has been proved right in his assessment of players he wanted to sign.

But never mind, as Sidney says, they would have been sold anyway as we don't keep our star players for long!

I understand Harry got through a fair amount of players, but I don't remember us losing a great deal on them either.

I mean, look how many ****e ones we have made before Harry - Ghaly, Tanio, Bentley, Fulop, Rocha, Bent, Rasiak. It's not like he came in and messed it all up.

Some are happy to say he did

Basically Levy has trusted 100 million to the wrong manager, but if out of all the signings we don't lose a great deal and someone like Lamela turns into the next 80 million star then he will have a smile on his face. £££££££££ Profit, equals big smiles at the lane, maybe not with the fans but the people in suits!

Am I alone in being glad we didn't sign him?
I wouldn't want a nasty little cheat (etc) like that in a Spurs shirt.

Absurd comment. By saying 'cheating' rather than 'despicable behaviour' you can only be talking about not wanting players on your team who dive? In which case... pot... kettle...

It was Ian Broomfield who recommended we didn't sign Suarez. At the time, Broomfield was our Chief scout. He is now employed in a similar position at QPR.

If we had signed Suarez he would have gone when he threw his tantrum last season. Levy would have rolled over and sold him, fair play to Pool for keeping him. The way he's playing now proves the club made the right decision for LFC. Levy made the right decision for Bales career.

The common denominator in all the transfer dealings discussed so far is one man, and its not a manager. Inactivity when we've needed it and wastefulness when we do in the really key positions is down to Levy, most signings are ok but realistic ones we really want, we miss out on as previously noted.

Why is everyone saying this?

They didn't even get a decent bid for him?

We didn't just sell modric to anyone, we got a good deal & didn't lose him to a prem team.

And with bale, it was 85m.

The way I see it, with him in our team, with Luca, VDV and Bale, we would have had CL under Harry and would probably still have them all, or at least direct replacements, not players that might be good in 3-4 years maybe.

It was Martin Jol, when he was manager at Ajax, who told goofy that Spurs wasn't a big enough club for him. Sour grapes perhaps

How many teams would've got £85m for Bale and made sure that he pissed off abroad? Seeing as nobody else has managed it for any player, ever, I'm going with none.
I think Suarez will be off in one of the next two transfer windows, too. Madrid might even splash the Ozil cash on him, especially if they can offload someone else to offset the fee.

Factitious don't need to offset the fee - they spread the fees over several years, so instead of spending £50m on a player in one season they pay £10m in five seasons. In other words, they're showing the whole of Europe that FFP doesn't work. They aren't spending £10m on a player, they're spending £50m, but quickly found a loophole to stop them being barred from the Champions League for not living within their means.

Of course, the usual way they offset overspending is selling a parking space at the Bernabeu to Madrid council for a £20m...

he was a **** throughout the Evra saga ... if it was not meant as a racist insult he should simply have apologised but instead he behaved like a total and utter ****... and for that alone I would hate to have him in our team ...

It's all guesswork but it was more similar to the Modric situation where no one from abroad came in with a good bid and Arsenal dicked around which pissed them off. Had Real Madrid offered £60mill for him then he'd be playing for them right now. It's one thing to have a player kicking up a fuss and wanting to leave but when a chairman receives an excellent offer it's far harder for him to say "no" to the player which, I think, is what we saw with Bale.

Anyhow, I like to think we'd have sold him for whatever we could get after he got banned for racially abusing a player, refusing to apologise and then not shaking said player's hand.

We have moved players on for less offences than being banned for racially abusing a player, so yes I would like to think we would have got shot of him as well.
