Apparently Arsenal have triggered Suarez's release clause with a bid of £40,000,001 (the £1 because the clause states any bid over £40M must be accepted).

Don't shoot the messenger, I really do not believe he has a £40M release clause even though David Ornstein who is highly reputable has stated as much.

Also heard that Suarez is now not playing in your friendly tomorrow, also Tony Barrett from the times has pretty much confirmed with (not so) cryptic tweeting that Arsenal have made a 2nd bid for Suarez: https://twitter.com/TonyBarretTimes

He doesn't have a release clause <laugh>.

Spoke to Suarez camp on Mon - wants & expects to be at a CL club next season. #Afc interest him but other options, in no rush to decide #lfc

Would anyone take £40m plus an Arsenal player (not Wal-****ing-cock)

On a serious note, L'pool officials said to be bemused by offer from Arsenal according to article in telegraph. Not sure what they expected, if the wording of the contract states "over 40m" then I don't know what the problem is. I think this saga is going to rumble tbh.

Exactly so the wording (if there is any) must not be as clear cut as that!

One thing I will say is that if the bid is accepted (forced or not) then other clubs will bid too.

True although depends if other clubs want... I think Madrid, maybe. Not sure of other interest. It might materialise if Suarez makes it clear he wants to leave. If I were you I might just take the money and shell out on Soldado and someone else. Pretty certain Suarez will leave, I could be wrong though admittedly. If Madrid enter the fray I don't think Arsenal stand much of a chance of getting him.

Don't want Soldodo at that price. I habe accepted Luis will be leaving, whether its this summer or next os slightly different.

Well I wouldn't gloat over it as an Arsenal fan if we got him (although I would be delighted to have him), Suarez is your RVP and it hurts to lose a talented player. <ok>

Liverpool have rejected Arsenal's improved offer of just over £40m for Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez.

The unusual bid, understood to be £40,000,001, was designed to trigger a clause in Suarez's contract but Liverpool have rejected it outright.

Suarez has a clause in his deal that means Liverpool are duty bound to consider any bid in excess of £40m and then inform the 26-year-old of it.

But they do not have to sell and have now rejected two bids from Arsenal.

Can someone explain the above to me?

So according to this he has a clause we are duty bound to accept but we don't have to sell? I'm off to bed!

We have to consider... meaning we can't say no straight away, we have to say "let me think about it....." then say no?

Like I've said for months now; his 40mill clause isn't a release clause that forces us to sell. It's a clause which lets the club speak to Luis about a move and then hope he pushes through the move on LFC's end with a transfer request. Which we'd reject anyway. It's a pointless clause really and nothing for us to worry about.

No clause say`s you have to sell, only that you have to inform the player and let him decide if he want`s to go.

C'mon! Think of the fun Brendan could have with this. Once a week brings Suarez to the office...tells him about an offer, types on his keyboard and says:

"Computer says no....."

Suarez would eventually end up in an institution.
